I sure hope for roleplay. As long as we avoid ERP. Anything like that...well, did anyone else here play Twilight Academy during those "dark ages" where ragnarok implemented karma rolls? Yeah, it would be worse than that.

Apologies for my having disappeared. I was out of town thursday night and had an engagement the last. Slowly catching up on the thread and pms at the moment.

Ok my spy among you has summarized what I missed in the thread.

Some comments on my end:
1. I don't think we should have house rules, if we can avoid it. This includes Unearthed Arcana.
2. I think we should stick to 3.5 stuff. That means no 3.0 stuff. I also think anything setting specific (eg. something from The Eberron Campaign Setting, like warforged) ought to be left out. Otherwise anything published by WotC for 3.5 is A-Ok in my book. The other GMs should probably jump in here to comment.
3. We should use point buy for stats. I'm thinking something in the middle of the road, but suitably heroic. 24 or so, maybe?
4. My vote remains for starting at level 3, but it's still under discussion AFAIK (or maybe Dwarmin and GWG have both voted for 1 already idk). The only people who -really- benefit from being able to take an LA race are the melee guys, anyways, and there's no reason to punish them. Obviously you all start at the same ECL, who even suggested it would be otherwise?
5. Roleplay is pretty big. Seriously. Do it.

To clarify: I meant the punishment would be worse. So don't do it, okay? If your character dies, you want it to be from a dragon, not a tragic accident involving a bed and no pants.

So tk likes Dwarm's setting, and so do i. since no one's objected to it, I'm guessing everyone else is fine with it? also, seeing as i've heard stories about Dwarm from yak players (:P) and i met Tk through an NWoD game, i doubt this will be entirely roleplay-phobic, but it'd be nice to know exactly how roleplay-friendly we expect this campaign to be?

I hope you heard only good stories. :P

And I fairly enjoy roleplaying of all sorts-but I'm really not into ERP. It's certainly not the focus of the game, though love, romance and closeness can be done in a manner that's respectful to everyone playing. In fact, I sort of prefer that over the blatant heavy stuff. In any case, whats merely implied can be sweeter than whats laboriously and disgustingly described over 12 pages...lol.

Aside from that, all I really limit to RP is the point where you are making other characters uncomfortable OOC wise. I mean blatant trolling, bullying, controlling other peoples chars without some sort of understanding. It doesn't really come up often.

1. Well, I'm on either side. We either do the whole houserule list or none at all. I'm leaning toward none, tho I have promised lawas a minor one-that he can tale alchemy without spellcasting, in exchange for having to earn certain resources in game during missions to make certain potions.
2. 3.5 is good. If someone wants 3.0 and can give me a good conversion tool, I'll consider it however.
3. I usually go higher than that, but in the interest of not wasting time I'll agree to 24 pb.
4. I think we should start at level 1, personally. This is a world where most of the old heroes are gone...and some players have mentioned they prefer a lower level campaign.
5. ^

Hm, I've never done a living campaign before. If you need another DM (given a smaller/ more specific portion of the setting/city/wasteland), or, baring that, another player, I might be able to play. But first, I need a few things. Do we have a concrete list of players/DMs? I'd like to see the ratio, because it seems to me that there should be enough players to warrant/occupy multiple DMs. And how are these players going to be divided? Into groups, or will they start out solo?

Also, I'd like to know how far the setting has come along. I like the idea, at least the little tidbit I read. If we've gotten as far, I'd like to have a list of available districts/areas.

Soooo, right now we've got close to twelve players and three gms-which is four per, not too bad. So either side could be open.

And a lot of it will be open to the GM who runs the area. I'm not going to force my players together, but I will prefer they not be complete strangers to one another. Even friendnemies would work.

As for the setting, I've got some good ideas...I'll shoot you a pm in a few with the basic layout I'm thinking of.

What is a warblade?

Edit: Dwarmin, how long after the magical apocalypse will the game be? Roughly?

@Lawas: Well...erm...durr...

Let's say anywhere from 3 to 5 years. It's enough Oasis has begun to sprawl and population boom, but everyone remembers the old world still.

Also, a Warblade is like a fighter but instead of feats as a class bonus he gets 'martial maneuvers' which are sort of like spells, but physical actions-say for example, a special leaping attack that requires a jump roll to determine your increased damage.

Also, heres my basic notes on the city lore-not really much yet, and the world itself might as well be left completely vague to allow as many cultures as we need.

The apocalypse is undefined atm.

Quote
Possible Districts
~'Uptown' or 'Hightown'/The richest and most affluent part of the city-the centermost areas are filled with palatial mansions  and gardens that deny the chaos that has enveloped the world, a place for the elite to ignore the problems right outside their walls. Hordes of personal soldiers are at their beck and call, but many of them actually lack power or connections outside of their little empires. That's where heroes come in.
Four walls encircle Uptown-the innermost protecting the nobles
The second protecting the 'middle' classes of the city-this is actually the boundaries of old oasis.
Most people here are 'classic' humanoids-those with riches, skills and resources to bring to the table. Other races have found themselves moved outwards into the fringe.
The third and fourth walls are hasty constructions, designed to house and protect the burgeoning population-but the third wall is too large to patrol properly and is barely structurally sound. The fourth wall is little more than scattered stone blocks, and doesn't look to be completed any time soon. It does mark the boundary however...
'Roof Rats' make their living in this district, using the ample building space to never touch the dirty cobblestones. They are usually thieves, couriers, or assassins-or more likely, an opportunistic combination of all three. Crossing the defensive walls is highly risky-it's called Fording, as in 'Fording the River Whyte'-for Oasis guards usually wear pristine white uniforms, despite their usual brutality.
Gangs tend to patrol most of the streets, with varying levels of competence. Some are crackpot militias, others small time organized crime rings-all view their streets and homes as sovereign territory.
The Uptown docks don't receive much shipping any more, but they do run supplies out to fort Weather-the safe waters themselves are mostly lawless places where people are glad to have escaped oasis. (See below)

~Lowtown or 'Downtown'
Mass urban sprawl where any sort of planning was forgotten long ago. A confusing maze of temporary housing built from whatever materials were available.
Few guards come into this part of town, and the people have little defense against crime.
Crime is actually not the worst problem, however-monsters know this land is a rich hunting ground of bedraggled refugees. Heroes are needed to hunt them down, for no one else will.
There is a significant rebel sentiment broiling just under the surface-powerlessness and loss of hope are making people desperate and envious of their 'richer' neighbors. A keg of powder needs only a match...
Possible separate district or merely part of this own-'undertown', where the underground races dwell and the caverns are endless-down, down, down...

~Wastelands
Located beyond even the Lowtown sprawls-Wasteland communities tend to be hardened survivalists, or just people who have moved here for lack of space.
Much of the land is desolate and arid-it's difficult to live here. But the people who do tend to be quite tough.
The cataclysm reaches the Wastelands most severely, even past the defensive totems. Communities might find themselves literally wiped off the map overnight. With no help from the city itself, they are forced to rely on whoever will offer it.
Those who are brave enough to actually venture outside the totems can find a world wracked and ravaged, but still full of the knowledge and treasures of the fallen empires that came before.
The land has little population, but many savage humanoids have constructed their own empires in what amounts to the last free lands. Many of them wage war on Oasis for supplies.

~The Clean Sea/Clean Coast (might be folded into Uptown or separated into component parts depending on available Gm's)
The sea shines no longer-vicious storms and monsters make travel nearly impossible, yet for many people along the coast fishing is the only source of food and income.
Small islands dotting the horizon are usually abodes of chaos, with no rulers but their own people.
Anyone flying a Oasis fleet flag is liable to be set upon by opportunistic scavengers.
Graveyards of ships and sunken islands and tombs provide a wealth of adventure for anyone so inclined-much of the coast around OAsis fell away during the cataclysm, leaving a good portion of the city still underwater.
Fort Weather helps guard the Totem of the Sea (see below) and must be regularly resupplied and defended.
Many aquatic races have likewise found the Clean Sea their only home-Tritons, Merpeople and Darfellan have all moved here, and have many of the same problems as those on the surface.
Sahuagin (and other nasty undersea races) have also moved in. Many of them are conducting wars against the others who have moved here-the Sahuagin in particular are seeking to capture the totem of the Clean Sea and corrupt it, and may one day choose to invade Oasis itself. Adventurers can be supplied to help combat these threats.

~The Totems
Each Totem was constructed long ago by the Druids who originally founded Oasis-though the city grew eventually to exemplify the casual waste of civilization they despised, these ancient devices were made to preserve the land in the event of a horrible disaster. And they work, for now anyway.
The Totems encircle the city-each one calming the land around it. The centermost of the totems range and the cities is the most pleasant, but closer to each one the various environments they embody are strongest-for example, the Totem of Spring is a large tree, and it's area is a pleasant grassland where most of the cities food is grown. The Totem of the Sea is a coral tower, one that extends to the deepest ocean trenches-purifying and calming the sea around it. The totem of Winter is a tower of ice-and the lands around it are perpetually cold and snowy-giving cold acclimated peoples a home as well. There may be many totems, larger and small-perhaps even some located in the sky, or underground. Each one is vital to the cities continued survival.
For various reasons, the Totems are areas of conflicts. Some wish to destroy them, or corrupt them to their own uses. Even approaching them may have you under attack by their zealous and not entirely unreasonable defenders. And they may very well fail on their own, if a solution to the current problems are not found.
