Staging Area
"Go team Welroki! Hey various entities, it's too bad Alan isn't around to get us some couches, am I right?"
Let's play with my spear while I wait. Hmmm... is it in bracelet mode now, or even here? If it's not here, see if I can will it into existence. If it's here, press the Front, Back, Enlarge, and Shrink buttons to make cool stuff happen.
<Yes, I miss him so much I'm considering not allowing him to come back.><Don't be such a grouch.
Wouldn't you like a couch?>"I've got a couch right here." you hear from behind you, along with the munching of popcorn. Looks like
he has summoned a couch and is currently enjoying some pop corn.
You remove the bracelet and try pressing some buttons. Front and Back do nothing. Pressing Enlarge does something. The bracelet shrinks until it becomes a ring. Then the inside of the ring starts expanding, quickly filling out the inside of the ring and then expanding to either side of it, becoming something like a short staff. The pole keeps getting longer, quickly at first but more and more slowly as time passes. You stop pressing the button when it is about the size of a quarterstaff.
You hear giggling from behind you and some muttering about
"enlarging your pole".
The Shrink button does the opposite, shrinking the weapon slowly at first and then much faster, until it disappears completely and it becomes a bracelet again.
It could probably work as a portable pull-up bar, if nothing else.
Second chance round
((For those of you without any speed bonuses or penalties, you'll all be moving in a standard speed. If you want to attempt to go faster than that, please mention it explicitly by saying something like "dash forward".
Generally, if you want to do something, the more explicit you are, the less chances you'll be misunderstood there'll be.))
"May the best mad scientist win!"
I'm not really that keen on being in the middle. The edge sounds just dandy, though. Take cover and bisect akkudakku's character with a laser. Remain aware of what's going on on the other side of me though.
((This being a prime example of what I'm talking about. "The edge" here is a bit ambiguous. I'm going to assume this means "go to the edge of the shallow cover and go prone there to take advantage of said cover. Once there, make a laser to bisect akkudakku's character." If the thing about the edge was just commentary and not part of an action, then it's probably better to not bold it so that it is more apparent.))
You run towards the right side of the shallow ditch and dive towards its edge, taking cover there. Your target (called Modus) appears to be currently staring forward thoughtfully. With your target in sight, you take out your notepad and start solving an equation for a laser that should ruin his day. Unfortunately, you realise that you have made a mistake. Specifically, you've forgotten to add the estimated distance to the target to your calculations. Meaning that the laser appears directly above you.
Fortunately, years of failed (or successful) experiments trying to kill you means that your skin, coupled with your uniform, is thick enough to take the hit long enough or you to roll away. And by take the hit I mean the skin of your upper left arm becomes red and blistered where the beam hit it, the pain intense enough for you to emit a small scream. Thankfully the pain subsides a while later.
Huh. There's apparently a giant deer behind you, wearing an interface.
I speed myself up as much as possible and try to slow the tank down. Then dash towards the hill sticking to cover.
You try to use your power but you appear to have forgotten the words used in this spell... Was it "THAIM HAUT!"? Or was it "SFID BAHMP!"? Maybe "MUV PHRIZ!"? After a few seconds, you try again, but you must be doing something wrong, because the spell fails to take hold. Maybe you're just out of practice?
There's a flash of light somewhere on your left followed by a scream. You shrug and start moving towards the hill as fast as you can, trying to reach the tank so that you'll have some cover. Unfortunately you appear to be a bit out of practice in that too, since you move more at a brisk walking pace than at a running pace.
((All of your rolls were 2s. All of them. And there were many. Make a sacrifice to the luck gods and try again.))
"A shame only one of us can win."
Move as far forward in the trench as possible. Then head to the crater on the right. If I see someone try to slip into their mind
You run towards the crater on the right.
As you do so, you try to enter the mind of one of your competitors, who is currently in the process of turning into a rather large yet famished-looking stag with gigantic antlers. You make some progress decoding his thoughts and forcing your way into his mind. The fact that it is a deer's brain with the thoughts of a human but the senses of a deer is a bit disorienting, but you manage. You'd say you're almost inside his brain now. You could probably start messing with things now or reading his mind now, or consolidate your power further.
Instantly turn into a deer and dash towards the low cover, where I will begin eating the grass. If something rushes at me, then do the typical thing deer do to humans that attack them. That is, rise onto their hind legs, lock their front legs together, and do a motion like punching downwards rapidly, before pulling the hooves back up and smashing again.
You manage to turn into a rather large stag, with antlers so large it takes a bit of effort to even keep your head upright. You are feeling extremely hungry after the transformation.
And unfortunately for you, while there's plenty of grass on the ground outside of the crater and the ditch the tank has carved, inside it there is little left. You munch on the little that's left but it's barely enough to satisfy your hunger.
You also start feeling a pressure on your mind, something like whispers in the back of your head. It doesn't feel nice.
"Hold the hill? I got this. Them aliens might actually done somethin' useful to me for once."
Dash around the left side of the tank towards the hill. If attacked, hunker down and activate to begin charging.
It's not one of your best sprints, you barely manage to catch up to the tank. Luckily, it appears that the other guys are leaving you alone for now.
EveryoneAs the competitors remove their parachutes and engage in their various actions, the battlefield does not stand still.
Another cargo plane dives through the clouds, leaving a stream of flares behind them that illuminate the terrain ahead of you, their jet engines making a deafening noise as they pass overhead before disappearing into the dark clouds of the night sky. As they pass, they drop more soldiers ahead of the tanks, soldiers that immediately start charging towards the hill.
The tanks keep slowly moving forward through the mud. They start slowing down, turning their turrets to take aim to the hill.
A flare flies from somewhere on the hill, falling towards the lead tank in a long parabolic arc.

OOCGot to cut this short due to unexpected things happening. That means no time to draw soldiers, but they are ahead of the tanks.
Campaign turn coming within the next few hours when I will hopefully be done with the things that are happening.
