Enchanters of a shrouded river delta (Dead)
« on: November 03, 2013, 07:12:30 pm »

The Empire of Fortune's Travels vastly outpaces any other state on the planet. Its tinkerers tirelessly construct majestic zeppelins. The people enjoy vast luxuries pouring in from across the world. The universities train the finest minds. The wizards constantly work to uncover the secrets of the cosmos. The Emperor himself benevolently watches over his domain, and those few who disagree with his wise rule are swiftly brought to justice.

The vast prosperity comes with a cost: Population growth is projected to outpace food production within half a century. The wizards have recently discovered a way to breach the veil between planes, although at high costs. The Emperor has decreed that voluntary colonization begin on these new sites. Most of the cost with transportation is with breaching the veil: Large numbers of people and supplies will be sent at once, but the veil will re-seal itself within days, forcing the colonists to be self sufficient from the outset.

Five enchanters will accompany one such expedition. That would be the players. There may be other wizards, but they will play a lesser role at this particular colony.

Possible sites, on different worlds:
An Idyllic Valley - This peaceful valley looks to have nice farmlands, and the nearby hills look to have an excellent site for a quarry.
A River Delta - This site is heavily forested, and the water access would be useful for fishing and exploring.
A Mountain Chain - There isn't much room to build, but there should be easy access to ore.
A Frightening Forest - Anyone in this forest feels constantly ill at ease, but the air is filled with magic.
A Dead Wasteland - It would take a concentrated effort for anything to survive in this desolate area.
Other - Ask the wizards if they have a site meeting criteria X

Yay! This sounds interesting!
Name: Cion
Description: tall and thin, a unnerving gaze with misty grey eyes and a look that suggests he might not be all there, plain white cloth for garments and closely shaven hair, fair skinned and black hair with an odd simmer whenever he uses his magic.
Specialisation: teleportation powers (basically being able to transport stuff small distances and himself as well, distance changes if he focuses, that doesn't happen much.)
Hobby: experimentation and observation
Personality: observant but hyperactive, insane and insomniac with an odd fascination about anywhere which he hasn't been to or can't get to, this was the main driving factor behind him training in the powers of teleportation, highly aggressive against anyone who harms his friends and will mark them as doomed in his own fragmented mind, only pulling off the path from forgetfulness or being god not to.
Good thing for this world to have: diverse wildlife and fauna
Bad thing I also hope this world doesn't have has: fluctuating enviroments
One suggestion: phffffff I dunno, basic tools and stuff?
Desired site:river delta
Assistant: small trained peregrine falcon!

Name: Jack B Nimble

Hobby: Spelunking, Exploring, Hunting
Specialization: One type of object for enchanting[Rings]
Personality: Energetic and Inquisitive but has a nasty habit of being impulsive.
Good thing for this world to have: New ores and gems to find, new environments to explore, new wonders to see.
Bad thing I also hope this world doesn't have has: Deserts, Lack of sentient life, Poisonous inhabitants
One suggestion: Pickaxes, Navigation Stones, Rope (you can never have too much rope), Candle sticks
Desired site: Mountain Chain or Frightening Forest
Assistant: Kandul Stiks, a short dwarf who aids Jack in fetching raw materials and shaping his enchanted rings.

Name: Unen (he simply shrugs when asked for his last name.)
Description: Tall male, dark-skinned, brown eyes, black hair, clean-shaven, brown robes.
Specialization: Destruction. Making things split apart into many smaller things. sometimes while emitting light and heat. in any case, acceleration of entropy is his business.
Hobby: highly volatile chemistry experiments, expanding rooms that don't need any expansions, and making intricate model ships in glass bottles... his collection is quite extensive! NO TOUCHING.
Personality: very quiet and soft-spoken, he prefers to just up and do things rather than waste time talking about them.
Good thing for this world to have: Verdant life and extensive cave formations.
Bad thing I also hope this world doesn't have: Merfolk.
One suggestion: extensive mechanisms for complicated feats of engineering.
Desired site: River delta
Assistant: Carrie, a battlemage highly specialized in fighting the undead. she is quite independent and generally just uses Unen as a source of weaponry or asks him for support against particularly durable problems.

((I don't think heating something that is right above us to a ridiculous degree is very smart. Worst case scenario we become +metal statues+. This is a finely crafted metal statue. It is encrusted with sharkmist and HMRC. On the item is an image of HMRC and Pancaek. Pancaek is laughing. The HMRC is melting. The artwork relates to the encasing of the HMRC in metal by Pancaek during the Mission of Many People.))

Name: German Liyer
Description: A middle-sized red haired individual in his late thirties. He bears a short moustache and a goatee.
Specialization: Life-touch enchantment. (Useful for healing wounds or making things grow faster)
Hobby: Gardening and making unusual sculptures with living plants.
Personality: He is pretty relaxed and not prone to be stressed at all, but he tends to be very introverted, often failing to notice things to which he isn't paying attention to. He is curious about flora-related subjects, but ignores pretty much everything else.
One good thing you hope this world has: A rich and fanscinating ecosystem.
One bad thing you hope this world doesn't have (or does have): Pests. He hates any kind of pest.
One suggestion for the expedition to bring: Farming implements.
Desired Site: A Frightening Forest.
Assistant: his cousin, Stuart, who decided to go to another plane so that he would become a real man. There is no need to say that he was actually forced by his parents because he was lazy as a sloth. He is actually (slightly) interested in mining rather than in his uncle's "pussy plants".

Yep. I think that certain specialities have a better chance of getting in than others though. The colony will have to be self-sufficient quickly, so one of the two botanists should get in. Draignean probably has a good shot at playing too, since he's the only geologist. I'm not entirely sure about the chances of everyone else though.

Name: Ummur Kummur
Description: a person of middling height and uncertain gender, although definitely more feminine in appearance. Possesses skin in a shade somewhere between dark green and light brown, looks quite young, definitely no more than 30 years old. Has long hair arranged in many braids, and quite a skeletal frame. Has six fingers on both hands, as well as six toes on each foot. In addition, one of Ummur's eyes appears to be significantly larger than the other for some reason. He wears a long skirt together with a large, baggy shirt on most occasions. Her smile makes people a tiny bit uncomfortable.
Specialization: Enchantment: Preserve - by this it is meant that his enchantment puts an object in stasis, so to speak, forcing it to unchangingly maintain a momentary state for a while.
Hobby: Ummur loves ice sculptures. And snow sculptures. Normal sculptures aren't anything to scoff at, either. So you could say sculpting is her hobby.
Personality: personable, though can get a little too insistent and disrespectful of privacy for other people's comfort. He smiles at most of her friends, and some of his enemies. Magic gives her a rush, probably not a very healthy rush at that, and he always loves seeing it in use, or, even better, using it herself. Is truly moral and upstanding generally, and hopes to hold to a standard of behavior even on the wild frontier, and to have a wonderful time as well.
Good thing: at least one civilization of aloof, yet vicious, completely inhuman natives.
Bad thing: sentient ecosystems.
Suggestion: a person with civil engineering skills, to organize the builders.
Desired Site: River Delta.
Assistant: Jeschka, his daughter. She enjoys botany and medicine, and hopes to learn much from Ummur, who has taken her as an apprentice at her request. She has a lot of enthusiasm, but less sense than a rampaging bear in an explosives lab.

Lots of interesting characters to choose from.

I'd like to point out that the world is still largely undefined in my mind. The good/bad things fields are more for your input into the world, although using it to further flesh out your character's personality isn't a dis-qualifier. I'll be arbitrarily picking these even from people who's characters don't get in, so if any observers want to throw terrifying features at the players or vote on the starting site, go ahead.

Current votes, including anti-votes:
A River Delta: 5
A Frightening Forest: 2
An Idyllic Valley: 1
A Mountain Chain: 1
A Dead Wasteland: -1
