But the pistols are the backup weapon. That's their point. For close range you have an SMG.

Basically you've pretty much ignored half of what i said. Having 2 swords is stupid. There. Said it bluntly. Same with two pistols. They don't jam that much, especially not when maintained. With your logic you should carry two of everything because your sniper rifle or smg might break down. Spare armour in case it breaks. If you're so close they can knock it out your hands you can stab them: next to each other a knife is just as deadly as a handgun. Weight still applies. A combat knife would both make more sense world-wise and be more practical. It's the rule of cool over coming practicality here again.

The wide combat skills are the problem: they're too wide. Everyone else has a weakness. You character does not have any particular weaknesses. He can fight at short, medium and long range, from stealth or stand up, and be just as effective at all ranges. Your modifications avoid the major problem parts entirely. If you were just a sniper it would work. If you were just a close combat stealth expert it could work. But you're pretty much everything.

And I'm expecting him to never become as good in any one role as any of you will.

I didn't ignore what you said, I understand it perfectly but I do not want to edit a character that I already completed, in future characters I will take into account what you've said. All I could remove is medium range but he doesn't really have medium range weapons in any case. Short range and Long range are essential for him.

No idea what GOP is but thank you.

However I've said right from the start I'm making him a purely combat based character, medium range can go because I've got no medium ranged weapons. The swords are staying because they're part of his identity even if they rarely get used. The pistols are staying because I always have a backup and a backup for my backup isn't going to hurt me or anybody else.

By all means remove the mid range bonuses from his skills so he's short or long ranged but weak at mid range.

Oh, I don't vote or do politics at all for that matter.

Anyway my end character skills are as follows.

Melee, Short range, Long range, Stealth. Thats all. Less skills then most of the team has and I removed mid range so I now do have a weakness in combat as well but thats as far as I'm editing this character.

To be honest, probably better if you have medium range rather than short, we already have two close-only characters: mine and TCM's.

I know, but I don't actually have a mid range weapon.

Sniper rifle is long range at mid it becomes difficult to aim.
P90 is short range as are pistols at mid range they loose a lot of accuracy.
So being good at mid range while 2/3 of my guns are short range seems kind of senseless.

Then have a semi-automatic DMR instead. Long/medium range, while having a pistol as a backup for nominal close range. TO be honest, a sniper rifle probably won't be useful at the ranges this game will probably be at.

Less equipment to lug around as well to fit in the whole stealthy aspect. No point in carrying around 6 different weapons if you're not going to use 3-4 of them.

Naw I've messed Private around enough with making changes for one game I'm just gonna leave it as it is and see how it works out. I can always pick up a mid range weapon and drop something later on if it really doesn't work.

You have something for most everything. Which isn't a bad thing. Really, the bad thing is that you don't seem to have a consistent idea for your character.

For example. You said this:

As well as saying things like this:

But then you say this:

Now, being an uber-specialist is fine. Being a jack of all trades is fine. But you can't uber-specialize in being a jack-of-all-trades. Look at my character, for example(mostly since I know mine basically from memory). I am good at all ranges. I can affect all targets(except for some types of aircraft, but who's going to attack us with fucking jet fighters?). However, I am best at certain situations. I specialize in a specific thing that, with creativity and ability, can perform in most roles fine, even if it isn't great in every situation. I have missiles(on the UAVs), mag-charge grenades, and C4 for destroying helicopters, vehicles, and buildings all. Machine guns(again on drones), an assault rifle, two pistols and frag grenades allow to me to suppress enemy infantry or mow them down, participate in fire-fights, have a hold-out weapon, and drive foes from cover or clear a room. Two knives(I have two pistols and two knives because I want a backup knife, a backup pistol, and they're good for different situations) even allows me to fight in CQB. EMP grenades, smoke grenades, S15 Wireless Etc., A52 EC Suit, and an engineering kit gives me out-of-combat utility. Long range is covered by drones, medium range by rifle, and close range by pistols and knife.

Here's the key difference; my character isn't particularly great, or even good, at most of this. She excels in two things; Drones, and Explosives, both of which have significant, if not immediately obvious, drawbacks. When using drones, she's pretty vulnerable, comparatively. Her attention is on the drone, she can't really change positions, etc. Explosives has one in that it's not directly combat-focused, when we're in a game centered around such. She's also not overly-'powerful' in terms of her history, appearance, or personality. She's a relatively normal person(normal for someone who's one of the country's remaining best, since we all ought to be).

The C4 will get removed and I settled on what I'm doing a while ago and said so, but people continue to try to get me to edit it more.

I'm sticking to jack of all trades. Meaning good at any distance I'm required to fight in but unlikely to ever match anybody who specializes in a specific range.

There sure has been a lot of discussion for game mechanics even though we haven't gone a single actual mission yet.

I'd like to take the moment to point out that our task force is equally distributed among men and women, or female majority if the seventh recruit is counted. The women are generally large and muscular, dished out in armor and heavy supplies with roles that require them to be out in the forefront of battle or dealing with complex, technical explosion business. Meanwhile, the slighter and smaller men are occupied in lighter, faster, support-based functions.

Even if the world has gone down in catastrophic pandemonium, at least gender equality has advanced.

It's not a bad thing at all, as it provides a nice mix-up as opposed to the other 85% of Military Squad RPGs where everyone is a 6-foot-4 shaved or crew cut white guy with an assault rifle.
