Yep. Sucks when the defences aren't pvp ready but thats whole thrill of the game.
I lived 80% of time either in epic or chaos in 8 year of wurm i played. Got raided 0 times and got killed maybe 20 times.

Last time B12 made a settlement, about 12 months to this day, was during the mad reign of Nosfirebird. I know not what has happened since, but...I really don't like the PvP aspect of Wurm, but the grinding gets me as well.

Thats why Fighting needs redone. Its now based who has the most skill and not that has more people.
They added though that if more is attacking 1 that one gets some penalties on skills.
But yea overall pvp is really badly done.

I like the building aspect, the social possibilities and the exploration of a new world adventure.
I think trading could be nice too if there were regional difference so that caravans and ship-travels would be necessary.
Grinding is so relaxed in this game (to play it, not to get the max out of it in minimum time) that I can watch a show along the way.

Fighting (I only know PvE) is unspectacular and sometimes boring.

But the thing that is the worst on Xanadu is that you need 21 body strength to destroy building-parts. And to load crates on a wagon you need 23. That is way too high for a very necessary thing (destroying). And it doesn't need to be so high as a premium feature.

Good that I have nice neighbours who plays way longer as myself :)

I wanted to give her control of my house deed so she could do whatever with it.
if you mean with "her" our old mayor "Caly" then you search the wrong person. It's not her deed anymore. One citizen stole many animals and other stuff from her and she sells the deed. After that it becomes a ghost town I think.

I really don't like the PvP aspect of Wurm, but the grinding gets me as well.
then Xanadu is the right place for you...you can grind in enough empty spots and don't need to live in a populous area.

Okay so, necroing this gem to see if anyone wants it.

I'm thinking of us starting anew on Wurm, preferebly Affliction since that's where I have my toon, going to buy premium and I could even buy a deed for those that wish and want to join (Deed is to bribe you into playing ho ho).
I really love Wurm but it feels too awkward to play with some random villagers, and it feels like I can really get to know you guys, but I guess you guys really don't enjoy the look of Mycelium and the Spiders on Wurm :P

So who's up for grinding and dying?

If I were to start playing this again, I'd have to resurrect my old characters on the Freedom cluster.
I'm not doing that channeling grind again.

Do we have a living settlement somewhere?

Affliction is on the PVP cluster, so it couldn't transfer with skills intact.

The key to playing Wurm, in a B12 group of just in general, is to not take settlement seriously.  Take Path of Knowledge so you won't lose skill points, then become transient.  You go with whatever group is currently holding power.  Don't be afraid to jump ship or to move around.  Keep your tools on your person and covet them tightly, because only what you can carry on your back is of any true worth.  Cities, walls, ships, allegiances... they're all very fleeting and unimportant.  Don't hold grudges.

I've also heard the people playing on Elevation are extremely nice and helpful - basically if you say "I want to be another player to help you" then they'll help get you the gear and the hunting for the combat experience, because the one thing in short supply is hands.  There's an infinite amount of steel and wood, but only so many fighters.

Yea.
This is why I'm afraid to log back in.
I don't think I had my stuff on me when I quit the last time.
On the bright side, I checked my bank balance and I didn't put all of my money into deed upkeep (...although, if I had, the deed would still be alive...) so there's that.

It's not horribly difficult to get good tools again.  A lot of people are trying to grind up their skills, so you can ask that they grind their skill on a particular item.  The tricky part is bribing a priest to throw magic at your tools.

that channeling grind
About that..  ;)

It's true, though. I could probably even make most of them myself. I'm just attached, I guess; those tools had a lot of history -- my fishing pole was made by somebody who quit playing permanently in 2007.
Except the lanterns. Those exploded every other five seconds.

TBH... i would start in Xanadu since there is less alts and more real people to interact and play with.
But if want to have whole server to rule go affliction :)
Was fun game. Now it just irritates me how Rolf has forgotten hes vision of Wurm

More hats... peace!

greatorder always kept the giggles coming when one tried to build stuff with him, dancing in your face and stuff.

Interesting news is that they have reset Affliction and most of my nostalgia is reset with it. I think I might tryhard these two months now.

Edit: Omg ingame map

Edit2: And apparently Afflicttion is as big as the other home servers now.

Well we were up on the place that was called Yggdrasil and we were building up some sheds as walls against hordes of mountain lions, and you danced around I think, sidestepped :P
