Wow, I got so unlucky, that it turned out good in the end.

It's like trying to make an explosion, and getting a black hole.

Go make a proper trench over at the other monster entrance.

Create Grade 3 freezing gem.

Lets upgrade that tower...

So your plan this turn is to:

HFS + Scapheap: Split cost on building a tower
Rune: Make a freezing gem to combine with current gem (which you could do without pushing your limit :) )
Cheese: Make a trench on the south entrance

FYI, a grade 3 or less gem in section 4 (where you want the tower) will be capable of hitting monsters in both 5a and 5b, but if there's monsters in both, it will be splitting it's attention; also, if there's monsters in 4 or 3, it will be hitting those ones before the ones in either 5.
Wow, I got so unlucky, that it turned out good in the end.

It's like trying to make an explosion, and getting a black hole.
What a perplexicon thing to say. I can haz Siggy?

Also, I made such a novice mistake. See how the status says the tower is in area 3, but the picture shows area 2?
I just noticed that.
Also, while I'm at it, I got a side and b side mixed up, and didn't include sections 8a or b in my pictures. So those monsters are really in 7a and b, and the mound is in 6a, not 7b.

Yes, that is correct.

Also, are you asking to sig me? Or for me to sig you?
Cause you don't have to ask for my permission.

What a perplexicon thing to say.
Although I will be confiscating this.

Aah! Cromwell! Your modifier is TOO LOW!
You've got an even "worse" "so bad it's good" roll!
This field is going to be TOO EASY for everyone!

Grrmrrmmble. And I haven't even gotten to refilling everyone's mana.

Also, it was asking you if I can. And it's saying something that we both understood what we were saying in those quotes.

Also, how does this update schedule sound: M-W-F, plus once or twice as I'm able on weekends?

*facepalm* These dice favor you guys. They hate the GM. This is in reverse of the normal. This feels like they don't like me in particular.

The First Field
Long Journey, Short Memories

Turn 2

HFS + Scapheap: [65+1-2+0] Working together to conserve mana, Clair and Sofia cast a tower building spell; The resulting tower has a resting spot for gems that is able to swing them around easily, striking extra monsters. They don't use as much mana as expected: Clair uses 30, Sofia uses 50.
Rune: [4+1+1] Rune successfully makes a fairly mundane grade 3 freezing gem, though he used less mana than expected doing so. [5+1+1] He tries to combine it with the gem on the field, but when he finishes his spell, he still has the freezing gem in his hand; it exibits improvements resembling the one out on the field, though. Looking out to the first one, it looks larger and more refined as well, exhibiting behaviors like his freezing gems.
He now has a Grade 4 gem, and there is a grade 4 gem on the field.
Rune has 52 mana remaining.
Mastahcheese: [6-1-6] Trying again on the other path, Cromwell is once again messed up as Sofia and Clair momentarily make the same hand movements as him during their spell, causing a massive surge of energy. The spell completes, and a massive cloud of dust is thrown up as he covers his eyes in terror. When he peaks at the result, there is a massive fissure completely blocking all monsters on that path (Monsters will only approach from the north now, all waves are cut in half; Many sections may no longer have some buildings built in them).

The monsters to the south are turned back by the massive chasm, those that aren't blown away by the cloud of dust. The ones to the north, however, are unaffected, and begin scaling the large mound in their way.

Spoiler: Monster Status (click to show/hide)

Clair [3+2-1][6+2-1] 10+50-60=0/420 mana
[6+1-1] Clair wastes all her remaining mana on building an extra few feet on Cromwell's mound; it gains extra height, turning it into a hill and making it a harder climb.
Sofia [4+1][3+2] 87+72=159/480 mana
Could potentially make a grade 2 gem and a grade 1 gem
Rune [1+2+1][6+1+1] 52+20-36=36/450 mana
[2+1+1]Accidentally creates a pile of gem dust, sparkling brightly but not very useful.
Cromwell [3+1-6][1-6] 18+6=24/300 mana
Cannot create any gems this turn.

((OMG! Cromwell! What would happen if you tried to do something bad?! I'm getting scared of your modifier, man. Circumstances conspire to screw you over, but my dice... my dice, man... I think aliens sent them.
Also all my newbie gm mistakes should be corrected now by this point. I got sections A and B correctly oriented, tower's in the right place, etc.))

((How do mana shards work again?))
When a tower is near the shard, near enough to be able to hit it, but there are no monsters in the tower's range that turn (or it rolls to hit more monsters than are in range), then it fires at the shard. This causes mana to be fed into all present players' mana pools.

((HOLY----

Wow, I just turned a two lane Tower Defense into a one lane Tower Defense.))

Pretty much. I'll be having to figure out how to make this somewhat harder now, you guys having much more power than I intended :p.

"Hey guys, I just solved 50% of our problems! The rest is your all's!"

Head back to the base Orb, light up a cig, and focus on raising my mana, then call up them Wizzerd Councils.

The amulet immediately projects a miniature image of the council member. He appears to be in the middle of a conversation with someone else.

"...so why not try to get your stupid underlings to aim their stupid spells in the general direction of the shadow, huh? At least the gemcrafting wizards I've got to order around don't have to worry about that."

He pauses as if waiting for a reply. After a quick second, he continues.

"Yeah, really clever. What do you mean 'collateral damage'? There's no way a gem... er... hold on, one of my, uh, prodigies, is trying to contact me."

His image swells to full size, and he turns to address you.

"Yes? How goes things? Don't tell me it's getting too hard for you lot already?"

Rune also contacts the council.

"...Help me... I'm so scared... That guy was trying to do something, he slipped, started screaming, and the earth tore in bloody two!... If I am dead as this day ends, please... tell my gems I loved them..."

Concentrate on this gem, absorbing tiny amounts of it's magic- Not enough to drain it of a level, just enough to absorb the excess and power myself up for future actions. Try to not get murdered by Cromwell.

"I just caused a massive chasm in the ground by mistake. The good news, we only have the north to worry about now, the bad news, I expect that they will wheel around to supplement the north, and should be here in a few minutes, anyway. More good news, that gives us time to prepare for it.

More bad news, for you at least, I'm not paying for that."

Cromwell finishes his cigarette.
