When you don't eat the goop off your finger Pearl loses the bet she made with Claire, who closes her fist with a silent "YESSS" motion. Pearl gives up something from her pouch and Claire daintily pockets it.

You all head back to the shop and upstairs, then across to the 2nd floor of the guard tower. Charlotte is still unconscious but breathing normally. She's badly bruised. You ask what could have conjured the beast.

Pearl replies, "I don't know. Maybe its kind just melt when they die. I've never heard of those things." She looks to Claire, who shakes her head.

You tend to Charlotte while Pearl and Claire start fortifying the room. Claire closes the hatch leading down, and they both drag bunk beds around to barricade the doorway to the shop. Pearl expresses her misgivings about staying the night. "I don't know how much barricading is going to help. We could also try carrying Charlotte and get as far away as we can. We also haven't searched the lodge across the courtyard."

Everyone except Charlotte is covered in dried blood, and Pearl is also grimy with coal dust.

Eat some goop. Just to mess with them.

Well then eat it anyway, we already look mad, might as well fit the part.
See if it burns while we are at it.

Then take a look at the lodge, suggest we stay and watch Charlotte, Clair and Pearl checks it out then report back once its been given the all clear.

Or we go and leave one of them, but I would rather not leave either Pearl or the mutes alone.
If we go with Pearl then ask what they were betting.

Or we could all go and ignore the danger of taking our injured companion into a unsearched area, probably safer than leaving her and means we don't miss out on any loot on offer.
So fine with any of the above.
Also Xp, how did I miss that the last 3 updates?

I've been sneakily adding details as we go, though not going back to edit old posts.

Why not check out the well now? If that creature was down there, I very much doubt it would be sharing. And it would be a great hiding spot. With the grapple rope imbedded in the inner wall of the well near the rim, nothing could see it. Without looking in of course.

Heh, I posted that as a joke. Then again, this is Bay12 and this plan is crazy enough to work...

Would rather wait in a somewhat secure area with somewhat fortifiable shelter and provisions so we can rest one night before a possibly dangerous trip down a well, found one of those things, could easily be more than one of them, and we already have one injured ally because of them. Should wait til the party is rested and reorganized before exploring further.
Just a few probably pointless concerns aside, nothing bad will probably come of checking out the well again.
Still -1.

You decide to rest here for the night. That leaves some time before nightfall; perhaps there's something useful in the lodge. Claire volunteers to remain behind with Charlotte and keep watch with her bow over the courtyard. She can't whistle a warning if you need to come out, but she can fire an arrow at one of the shutters and hope you hear it.

You and Pearl head out to the shop attic and down the stairs, out the front door. Claire closes up the barricade behind you. You ask Pearl what they were betting as you walk across the quiet courtyard.

"The goblins trade with someone who makes these candies." She digs one out and hands it to you. It looks like a clear glass bead with a seed encased inside. "We bet these instead of money, because money is what our group uses to deal with others. These are just a little luxury."

Your footfalls crunch softly on the snowy ground. A flurry of large flakes blows across in front of you. The sky is a high cotton blanket. It's becoming dimmer and you estimate 3 hours more of good daylight.

The lodge is directly across the courtyard, on the south side of the compound. Its steep roof has more heavily-decorated beams and eaves, carved to look like open-mouthed animals. The sturdy log walls give way to a stone foundation and stone steps leading up to the great front door, which is shattered. The pieces inside are mingled with broken piles of furniture, including all of the heavy tables and benches in the common room. All of the debris is centered around the front door.

The central common room extends across the whole width of the building. There's a bar with some rooms behind it. There are a pair of hallways that extend toward the back of the building on either side of the bar. Down those halls are doors on either side.

There are grand wooden stairs leading up to a second floor balcony that overlooks the common room and also runs the whole width of the building. Your gaze continues upward and you spot three great antler-chandeliers coated in lumps of cold wax. There are doors leading further back all along the length of the balcony.

A fireplace sits on each side of the central bar. The fieldstone chimneys extend up to the second-floor balcony and up through the flat ceiling.

The windows are high on the walls, just small square holes for ventilation, and they're all open. Snow and cold light filter in.

Nothing is lit and the place is cold and quiet. All of the doors are open.

we should first check the rooms behind the bar. if we are lucky, we might find a stocked wine cellar down there or better yet, the proprietor's stash of gold. If there turns out to be nothing in there, we should check the hallway.

You enter the common room and go around the bar. It's made of a single polished tree trunk split in half and set flat-side-up upon a low wooden wall. The floor behind the bar is covered in smashed glass. There are also scattered small keys with leather tabs attached.

The door behind the bar leads to a kitchen with a stone sink but no other furniture. It looks like some cabinets were wrenched off the walls but they're gone. Stairs lead down into the stone tile floor, and a door at the back continues deeper into the building.

Nothing is lit and the place is cold and quiet. All of the doors are open.
