When Charlotte gets within range, open the hatch. We don't want it turning around prematurely.

Claire turns her head to you, nods, and mouths "Now!"

You hear the staircase below the hatch groan and shatter. You clamber down the steps and swing open the hatch to see the worm lying on the floor 15' below amid a pile of wooden wreckage. Charlotte has crept in the door and is attacking the worm with a rusty pitchfork. There are a few triple-stab wounds on the beast's sides and one of Claire's arrows sticking out of the tail.

The worm flips around and entangles Charlotte, pinning her arms to her sides. She cries out soundlessly as the serpent constricts.

//

You, Claire, and Pearl are in the 2nd floor of the guard tower. The white serpent is inside the 1st floor. Very narrow stairs lead up to a sturdy hatch, and down to an open hatch in the floor - but below that the staircase is shattered. An open broken doorway leads west into the shop building. You are in the hatch shaft, blocking it. Pearl is above you, and Claire at the arrow slit. Charlotte is on the 1st floor constricted by the worm.

Everyone except Charlotte is covered in dried blood, and Pearl is also grimy with coal dust.

+1, should we grab Charlotte's sword if we see and get the chance? Would probably cut better than a rusty axe and dagger, should be on the ground floor.

Assumed we would try jumping down/navigating the shattered stairs, or go round like she did, if jumping how far is the drop?
Edit:Can't very well stay where we are anyway.

Pearl is jumping from foot to foot above you while you're wracked with indecision, and sprints off across to the shop and down those stairs.

The serpent constricts again. Charlotte is all but hidden by the serpent's coils.

You leap down from the upper floor, landing on the worm axe-first and burying it deep into its side. You chop at it wildly.

Claire descends the narrow stairs to the hatch and fires her bow at the worm, planting the arrow in the floor instead.

--

As Pearl charges into the front door of the guard tower brandishing her dagger, the serpent finally succumbs to your axe-work and flops to the ground. Charlotte's white-skinned body slumps over it unconscious but alive.

WHO-HOO! We Murdinated the vile serpent! Our next courses of action should be as follows:

1. Get Charlotte to a safe place upstairs so that she may recover.
2. Skin that snake and cook its meat. (if we ever manage to find some sewing equipment, we could make our entire party pairs of swanky snakeskin boots or more bags!)
3. return to the well and investigate the bottom. we might find better armor down there.

Yay lucky skin, unless that is just shed skin that is lucky. Got my info on Lindworms from some dragon wiki, so I wouldn't trust it.

+1 to the first two, -1 to the third, it can wait.

On top of our stash of salamander meat? We've got enough food to feed a small army. If we took the time to do that, we'd be out of daylight.

Fair enough, try to remove one of its fangs then?

if we don't need the meat, we should definitely save the skin. also, +1 to removal of fangs provided we are VERY careful. for all we know the fangs could be poisonous.

You all pick up Charlotte and carry her around to the shop and up the stairs to the central attic area of the shop, and then over to the guard tower 2F. There are plenty of beds to rest in. You make sure she looks comfortable and go back downstairs by the same path.

When you get back you find that the worm's skin has turned translucent and it has sagged noticeably. Its black blood is seeping out of its wounds and pooling on the floor. Pearl and Claire pick up all the gear that was left by the wood stove while you investigate the serpent.

Its fangs have retracted into the roof of its mouth again. You can see the four little openings in the hard gums in its jaw but cutting isn't very productive. As you're handling the head you can feel the whole thing getting very rubbery and the face deforms as if its bones are softening beneath the skin.

Suddenly the skin on one side bursts open and black viscera spill out. The corpse sags even more, as if deflating. The spill is opposite you, sloshing up against the east wall and moving about some pieces of the staircase. Pearl and Claire get out of the way and stand next to you, near the front door.
