You continue walking north, aided by the compass. You try to retrace your path to go past the Dryad's tree but miss it along the way and arrive at the E-W gap in the trees you saw when you climbed and looked around.

It's a broad riverbed. There are steep dirt cliffs in places 5' to 15' high, with brush and undergrowth spilling down. In other places the land slopes down to the riverbed easily.

The banks alternate between stretches of large gravel (fist-sized rocks and larger, some boulders) and stretches of bare rock smoothed by the water's flow.

The very center is more sandy, about 10' across of the whole 60' span of the riverbed.

There are occasional tangles of trees, fallen and twisted and entwined by the river's action. But right now they're high and dry, because you sure don't see any water.

On your side of the riverbed is a badly overgrown road following the riverbed. There's an upright boulder with a flat side, covered in moss, but you can see some carvings on it.

EXITS: N (across river), S (back toward the ruined farmhouse, E (upriver to the mountains), W (downriver toward the city Nah mentioned), Down (collapse on the ground and give up because OH GOD WHY DID SHE LEAVE ME)

You're hungry, thirsty, and cold.

We can fall down and cry later, keep it together we won't win her back if we starve/freeze/dehydrate to death. Think positive/distract yourself with taskes related to survival.

Set the fallen trees on fire for heat (I like to imagine jeffery as a pyromaniac, after all we did set an ENTIRE BARN on fire instead of just building a small funeral pyre)

Follow the road to the ruined city, Maybe there is some rum or wine there to drink, as well as any preserved or dried food.

Examine this as we pass, give a minute to check the boulder and area around it from all sides for anything else interesting.  Pause if there's anything interesting.

The boulder has carvings that look like words but the moss covers them.

You try to light a logjam on fire but it's very cold and all you have is the engraved lighter.

You're hungry, thirsty, and cold.

Use our rocks to make chunks of wood to light on fire.

Could set the boot on fire as well, look for berries that dont look like poison/hallucinogenic berry whilst traveling?
If we desperately need liquid we could drink the potion we have never seen fit to test on anything, but that may be suicide.

Edit: Clear the moss off first, using a the dagger if needed, and read whatever it says under it. (Yes I'm aware it's not our top priority, but if it's words it may lead us somewhere, plus we could try to eat the moss, some are safe to eat, IIRC)

Use our rocks to make chunks of wood to light on fire.

We do have a torch.

We could prepare wood for a fire if we wanted to take that time, but I see little reason to stay here, there's neither food nor drink and we have reason to think that there's a troll somewhere upstream affecting the waterflow - staying here seems unlikely to provide us with food or water.  Before we move on, seeking our needs/the cause of the river's disruption...

We can light our torch and use it to singe away the moss that obscures the carving on the boulder, trying to warm ourself, at least our fingers while we do so, then almost immediately smother the flames in that nice deep sandy center of the river's channel.  If we're swift enough with this, our torch should still retain most of its capacity to serve as a torch again.  Once we've doused the torch in the sand we can spend a moment looking around that area of the riverbed - any sign of damp areas?  Any sign of edible plants growing in what was submerged, but is now likely to be highly fertile soil, for all it is turned winter and so cold?

Most insects are quite edible, and exposed riverbeds (depending on how long they've been exposed) tend to have many life forms all busily using, and contributing, to the wealth of edibles to be found.

You scrape the moss off the boulder. The flat part is engraved:

<-  Springa Inn
<-  Crest Falls
<<- Stachura

Dustmen Abbey  ->>>
Great Falls    ->>>

The left arrows lead downriver to the West, and the right arrows lead upriver to the East.

You use some rocks and some elbow grease to tear apart limbs from the nearest logjam. It's dry, but not bone-dry. With your dagger you shave some kindling. You spot a place where the riverbank and brush overhang and a bunch of logs screen the other side from the wind. The sandy ground is hard-packed but not as uncomfortable as bare rock or gravel. You manage to make a fire and keep it fed with fallen wood.

A little exploration around the area doesn't reveal any fruiting plants. You spot some birds and a couple small animals but they're much faster than you. You return to the fire to warm up again.

You find the sand in the middle of the riverbed to be frozen, and there are rocks mixed with the sand after a few inches. Digging for water isn't going to be too fruitful right here.

It's daytime, cold and breezy, and there's heavy fog hanging among the trees. You're hungry and thirsty.

The logjam is 'dry but not bone dry' - upriver may be a Troll to whom Nah does or does not owe a Toll, to be paid only in gold.

Warm self thoroughly by the fire.  Use whatever fallen wood is handy to create a crude torch (save our current one as a backup) and take fire with us as we go.  Stop as needed to replace crude torch with new crude torch and keep ourselves acceptably warm.

Downriver tends to be decidedly downhill, easier and faster walking in most cases than uphill, and possibly less likely to be troll-infested too.  Go west.  This is a riverbed but no road, with this boulder with directions?  That's decidedly odd, but the river might have been so slow and gentle people easily propelled boats upriver as well as down.

Considering the moss obscuring the names and directions to go, all of these places may well be ruins now.

Are there insects about?  If it's not too cold, being insectivorous might keep us going a bit longer.  As we travel, flip easily-flipped stones and move easily-moved fallen wood; briefly search the exposed surfaces (underside of rock, topside of ground) for crawlies of any sort which seem catchable and not overly able to defend themselves.

+1, also +1 to going downriver, up would lead to water but is probably more dangerous.
Edit: Plus the locations are closer if the "sign" is to be believed.

On your side of the riverbed is a badly overgrown road following the riverbed. There's an upright boulder with a flat side, covered in moss, but you can see some carvings on it.
The branches don't make a great torch, but you manage. The debris you used to make your first torch was dry wood from the ruined farm.

You walk West along the center of the riverbed where the going is easiest. It's that, or walk on the big gravel, or the overgrown road.

You find an occasional bug or worm under the rocks you overturn. You gather a small handful by the time you spot a dock extending out over the river. You'd have to get closer to see any more detail.

You're hungry, thirsty, and cold.
