((Thank you for helping me see that badly overgrown road.  It sure was badly overgrown, so much I missed it))

Yes, but better to see first than be seen first.  Move into edge of woods and carefully get closer to 'dock', looking all around as we go (and still maintain crude torch, and still flip rocks/fallen branches and gather foodsource of last resort).

You walk up onto the north bank at the nearest opportunity and into the woods, circling around to the dock under cover of brush. You're trying to be quiet but you occasionally break a twig or rustle some leaves.

From this angle you can see that the dock is made of stone pylons that have very few seams, and a walkway in the middle made of big wooden timbers. The dock doesn't have any equipment on it but there's plenty of dirt and leafy debris. There are also a couple wooden pillars sticking out of their own pylons, but they're broken off a few feet up.

At the land end of the dock is a little cobblestone-paved area that's almost completely obscured by packed dirt and leaves covering it, with moss growing on the shady spots.

On one side, forming an L shape, is a fieldstone building with big gaping-open windows and a slate roof with a fish-scale pattern. Remnants of half-inch-thick glass are stuck in the frames of the open windows. The roof extends out from the building on all sides, with a broad wooden porch under it all around.

Overall, the area is arranged like so:

Building   Plaza
           Dock
<----------River----

Three charming little fellows are sitting around in the plaza gabbling to each other and eating. There are some baskets with handles and a big pile of gravel in a four-wheel cart.

Oh yes. They're eating. Strands of sausages and big wedges of cheese and bread rolls and pickles. Passing around a jug with a tiny one-finger handle.

Doesn't seem like they see you.

You're hungry, thirsty, and cold.

How well can we hear them?  Well enough to tell if we can recognize or maybe even understand the language?

Yeah you catch a few words, but to hear everything you'd have to get closer (risking discovery).

As you approach with your torch but otherwise empty-handed, two of the creatures shriek and leap up. "AAAH!" The third has his pinkie in the jug's handle, holding it up with his bent arm, drinking with gusto. One kicks him in the ribs and he opens his eyes, leaping up and shrieking. "AAAH!" And sputtering. The jug lands on some moss.

"Who are you?!" says the littlest one in a gravelly, high-pitched voice.

In addition to the above, smile (Do not show our teeth, we have no idea if these creatures take it as a sign of aggression) and lower our torch. Raise our other hand away from our knife to show that we mean no harm.

+1, possibly offer to play the orcania for them or some sort of menial labor in trade? (Keeping in mind we have only played it like once before)
