The last forum game I entered I ran against a brick wall in terms of inspiration. Anything you people use to inspire your characters, then?
New characters. Always new characters.
Do you decide 'Oh, today I'll make a spellcaster, etc' or is it completely random? Relative to the RP you're joining, of course.
There are a number of different factors. Sometimes I use character themes, personalities, goals or what-have-you that I've come up with, thought "this would be fun to play" but just not had a suitable RP to play them in yet. Other times I'm struck by the opportunity the game setting gives to play something that I usually wouldn't or that has potential, like, say, designing a character for an aquatic or bard-focused game. Then sometimes I take a couple of loose bits of inspiration from somewhere else, smash them together and build something new on it: for instance, a character for an upcoming game was built around the name of an MMO healer, the name of a castle from a book, and a very,
very loose interpretation of what the two do.
It depends on things like my mood, what I've been reading, listening to, watching or playing recently, if Inspiration hits me, the built-in constraints of the game... A lot of things, really.
At first his character was "Evil mastermind sociopath guy" which eventually led him to becoming a nymphomaniac Vocaloid princess.
What.
Ahh, forum games. Stuff like that can't happen anywhere else.
Sure it can. Unexpected stuff happening is a wonderful part of RPing in general. Surely you've seen those "what I made, what the GM saw, what I played" pics?
