Alec quietly shoved his way past the other mercenaries. At the start of the next turn, he would be leaving the battle unless someone stopped him.

"You heard me Sheila. Now, honor a fool's last request, and run. I can die content... if it means you can live."

Leo turned to Efa.

"You wish to fight as well? Then take my strength."

Leo Transfers +8 STR to Efa!

:"Novel idea, Leo: We could win! Look at 'em, we can handle them!"

"No way! If you really love me there's no way I can let you die! Because I love you too! I'll fight for you, whether you like it or not!"

Sheila gave Efa a thumbs up. "Let's kick some ass!"

[Sirus]

Grifen rode up to Alec, whom she noticed breaking from the herd.

: "H--hey. Where ya goin'?" Her voice was just barely under control.

(Hold, by the way.)

Alec stopped his course briefly with Grifen's horse blocking his way, and then tried to sidestep her.
: "Where do you think?! I'm leaving before the Captain over there turns us into paste. If Matilda wants to die in a blaze of glory, I'm not going to stop her."

Leo looked at Sheila. He didn't seem surprised by her confession.

"I know."

That was the problem. He and Sheila would have to have a talk about a few things after this battle was over. If they survived.

"Everyone, fall back! If we're to fight together, let's get to a more advantageous position!"

[Sirus]

: "Yer leavin'? But...but we need yer help! Those songs of yers might keep us all alive!" The nomad gestured towards Sheila, Leo, and Fezz (who at the moment hadn't said anything). Her eyes started to glisten.

: "I wanna run away too, but my friends are stayin'! I can't leave 'em to die! Even if ya don't care about Matilda, what about the rest of us?"

: "Rgh..." Alec averted his eyes from Grifen, trying to continue on, "I have people I need to protect. Family. They need me more than all of you would. If I die here, who the hell is going to help them then?!"
: "...Please, you all could run, get the hell out of here. I could pull strings to get us a boat on short notice." He turned briefly and directed his last sentence to the rest of the group.

:"Not a chance! I've wanted to be able to do this for years!"

"Even if you don't want me, to hell with it. I'll fight to the death if I have to!"

Julius looked behind for a moment to glare at Alec's back, but didn't move to stop him. If he wished to stray from the path of righteousness then so be it. He didn't have time for those sorts.

Julius didn't glare this time. But didn't really seem to want to face him either.

"Leave me out of that Alec. I have other plans."

[Sirus]

: "...y'ain't the only one with family to help, you know." The nomad pointed towards Sheila first. "Sheila's lookin' fer her pa, who disappeared. Everywhere she goes, she asks around." Next Efa. "She's got family in a hut somewhere. A ma, a brother, and sister. From what Efa told me, they're pretty poor and could sure use some extra money." Next Fezz. "He's also got a pa out there, who raised him all on his own and taught him magic." Leo next. "And preacher there wants to go back to his home and heal all the sick people there! He could probably save hundreds of lives and he's still the most willin' to stay!" Her eyes weren't just glistening anymore; now they ran with tears.

: "I can't make ya stay, and I know that family's important. But if you leave, none of us will ever see our families again. If you stayed and helped, maybe we'd all get to go home. Wouldn't...wouldn't that be nice...?" Her voice trailed off, and she looked away as she struggled to contain her sobs.
