Bethany resists the urge to jump in the air, and manages to only do a frightened hop, coming up with her bow drawn. It's telling she jumps toward Derry.
When no firebreathing Eruvian Boomslangs swoop down on them, she seems to be...intrigued...and is more sure, there is something hiding in the shadows above them. But what...
"...Huh...I don't suppose we'll get any more clues?" She asks the mysterious voice, no expecting an answer.
"It doesn't make a whole lot of sense. How can you place it without holding it? But, bearing it can mean...you can bear a responsibility...or a curse...so, I suppose that means whoever owns it...which means Kyle has to hand it to someone, who places it in...assuming the voice didn't lie..."
Perhaps the caution lights in Bethanys head are starting to go off, but it's far too late for that.
...
She watches as Derry walks away from her, taking the disc and walking up to the dais. One part of her feels she should have been the one to do it-a hotflash of jealousy-he stole her moment of glory. The other part, much cooler and more even tempered, hopes he'll be alright if he does this. Perhaps, even needs him to be alright. If that part of her is to keep living.
She tries to think of something to say, something witty or sweet, but cognizance eludes her. She realizes for the first time, this might be really dangerous. He might be hurt. He might even die.
Bethany can't say a thing. She just watches it play out.
