So I managed to take down a space station with my puny fighter in singleplayer.

I wondered why it hadn't been harder. The turrets would damage my shields a lot when I got close, but I made a few passes shooting them with missiles and soon they were all gone.

I later noticed that I had all my ships set to non-usable by pirates.

Goodbye, feeling of accomplishment. Hardly new ye.

Did they fix the major game breaking bug where you spawn a ship and it destroys the server if anyone is near the giant ship and lags the client (And server) to caveman land? Great grief tool for griefers if not and was annoying if you wanted a big ship.

The shielding and weapon system in game is bad right now sadly. The only way to kill enemies is having more guns and more shields

You can outgun the enemy in different ways however.

Small gun have more dps but drain more energy so you have two way to balance your ship. Mini turret on battery power can be surprisingly effective

The point is big gun doesn't translate immediately into better damage per second.

Power generation and ton of smaller gun give much better damage output. Don't underestimate big capacitor driven turret.

Actually the point is that there are many different ways to accomplish higher damage, I have a 750 meter battleship under construction that already out-DPSs most PvP ships with only 16 AMC outputs, granted those cannons are 5x5x550 meters, but they deal 549K damage as a group, and at over 4 kilometers range, a shotgun array can out DPS that, but at less than 500 meters of range.  Hell, the Eidolon kicks out over 100K DPS at 2.5 K range from just two guns, And I have no clue just how powerful her turrets are.  Efficiency is overrated, build for fun, it's more satisfying.

All these massive ships, and all I have, and probably ever will have, is a fighter/bomber. Hrmmm. I need NPC's that can pilot, or at least follow in formation. Fighter Squadron FTW.

The problem there is the majority of the people that scream efficiency are the type that use the waffle board type of guns. They are not that great of a weapon. I watched videos and a friend construct them and tested them. In the end they are woefully inefficient and they will be developed out of the game with Schema's new weapon system mechanic. I never liked the idea of the shotgun array and will never like it. I only have a cluster array cannons only to basically send out as much fire as possible in an area before the update to the A.I. that controlled the turrets. As of right now, I am going to be redesigning turrets for Keen and possibly have to start over with the guns just to work them into the new system.

I like sticking lots of small 3x3 turrets all over my ships. That way when an enemy flies over I get a cool wave of shots following after them. Style over efficiency. :P

I used a waffle board array for my turrets. The lag when they all begin firing is pretty abysmal, as is the range. I thought they were neat, though, and the firepower is actually quite impressive, which is nice if your connection to a server is so bad you can hardly use your main weapons. :P

The battleship has some guest quarters and locker rooms, now.
