BTW Minstrel, when where you online? I've been on the server for hours now, and did not see a single soul pop online. Been pressing tab every once in a while, and I think the game chat should give a message too, when a player logs on.

Oh, wow... it must have been... um... around 6PM Central European Time? I'm in Spain right now.

Wait... is the server still 68.55.212.49:4242?

EDIT: After experimenting for a while I found some salvage equipment, found out the best things to sell are cactuses and ice planet rock, I managed to build a dingy planetary base.

Do I understand correctly, from video tutorials, that this setup would be very efficient use of power blocks?

Hmm, yes. Long lines of power blocks arranged on the X,Y,Z axis. Power storage I believe is best placed in large blocks.

Mwhuhaha, this is what x,y,z axis does for turret size. Only 22 blocks needed, 8 in each direction along the axis.

What happens if I design a turret that has both a beam weapon, as well as turret's of it's own (with their own separate bobby modules)? Will subturrets act independently from the main bobby unit controlling the whole?

No subturrets possible at the moment. Not sure how they will work if/when they will be.

I've made bad experiences with turret docking modules that don't point upwards; do hanging or side-mounted turrets work properly anyway?

Yeah, they work pretty well. The side-mounted ones even properly point forward after the ship is reloaded.

I took one of the easter island heads, then upgraded with technobits.

so, also not having good luck with turrets either, let ask a question:

If your core is facing front and the docking module points upwards, which direction will the core now face? Frontwards or upwards?

The direction of the "parent" ship's core determines the "forward" direction. The orientation of the docking module determines where a docked ship or turret will point "by default". A docking module facing upward will have ships dock facing forward. A docking module facing "downward" relative to the parent ship's "up" will have ships docking facing backward. Module facing to the left will have ships docking "upward". Module facing right will have them dock "downward". I haven't experimented with forward and backward facing modules, but I assume it'll be some variation of upward and downward as well.

On reloading, or if you just fly far enough away and return, I know that at least turrets on left- and right- facing docking modules start pointing forward, but resume the up/down stance if you control them manually. Haven't tried it with regular ships.

It took some effort, but now I can continue building my dreadnought, from an orbital platform. It took about 120 docking enchancers to get the dock large enough to hold it, and I had to build a turret dock on the platform to hold my ship's turret, since you can't chain-dock.

But the view is totally worth it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Now I wonder what would happen, if I make a very long loop down, and connect the platform to the bottom of the planet (avoiding gravity).
I wonder if that would crash the server lol

And here are the very few other pictures I managed to take today (not many, since I was mostly doing stuff and answer questions from new people, but I don't regret that at all).

I think it might be okay, since I know for one Eric Blank has a station inside of his planet, and at some point we made an elevator that started on planet and headed toward the nearby star (though we didn't actually make it to the star itself, if I recall correctly) without any noticeable effect on the server.

Actually, we did make it into the star. It only passes through it at certain times though.
