Is it possible to freely walk on a ship while someone else is piloting?

And yeah it would be nice to be able to make modular designs by docking things onto other things.
It is possible to do so if you use a gravity module, though I have read that that can stop working at high speeds, so it's usually best to sit in a weapons computer or a docked ship.

You mean, buckle up?
Ah, buckle this! LUDICROUS SPEED! *GO!*

Time for my baby steps.
What better way to start, than to construct a dreadnought, the size of a planet.

Here are the humble beginnings of it's inner core's skeleton, now serving as a space station harvester.

How do elevators work? I just finished two elevator shafts going up. Do I need to fill the whole way up with elevator blocks, or how should go about it?

Meh. elevators cannot be built in ships, despite the tooltip saying they can. Only stations can use them.
I guess I'll just install some more gravity blocks, for easy access, so I can float up my shafts  :P

How do you actually make credits on the server?

I thought I would mine, but there's no salvage computers in the space station shop!

It's quite possible the shop at spawn has been sold out of some items by now. It's still at 2,2,2, right? Maybe someone should head over there and sell some supplies so it can be restocked.

I might be guilty of buying out a few shops in the area today XD.
Although, I did only buy one salvage computer. THere should be plenty more, check out another of the hundreds of shops.

BTW Minstrel, when where you online? I've been on the server for hours now, and did not see a single soul pop online. Been pressing tab every once in a while, and I think the game chat should give a message too, when a player logs on.

Time for a break

Hm...

Putting in the IP in the host:port section, I start the game, but its empty, aand I think its not the actual server. Can anyone offer support?

Been forever since I tried this out. What's the current state of the game?

The game is a lot more stable than it used to be, though the economy is still broken. I'd probably have to know when you stopped playing to tell you what features have been added in the meantime.

Late June, early July or so.

Alright, well looking through the dev log archive since then, the actually gameplay changes are:
  • a shield rebalance
  • a change of the factory system (you now must use a recipe item to convert things to other things, though it only takes one item to become another item and the recipe will make more items from the base item as it goes along, although you can only get recipes by spending 5000 of the block you want at the shop or finding one in pirate loot)
  • docked ships and turrets can be switched back and forth from the mother ship by pressing up and down arrow keys
  • dumbfire missiles do double damage of other types of missiles
  • a pulse weapon has been added that can push other ships and disable their power
  • faction public permission blocks have been added that allow players not in your faction to use blocks that are part of a factioned ship, station, or planet so long as there is a permission block adjacent to the block you want them to be able to use
  • gravity overriding: gravity can now be overwritten when activating another gravity module while still in gravity
  • Severely decreased the chance of high level mineral spawning in chests and loot (each base chance times 0.3 chance -> lvl 5 is less then 1% chance)
  • In case a weapons computer is orientated to something other then the front it will now always shoot straight in that direction
  • introduction of player shops via shop modules
  • Structure names can now contain spaces. You can also no rename any structure by placing down a faction block, declare it as a faction object. Activating the block again will give the "rename" option.
