I don't like that the vast majority of mods do not try to remain consistent with the game they are made for.

Excluding mods that are meant to alter the balance or meant to break it.

Especially since if you want mods, and sometimes fanpatches, you have to just suck it up and take it because mods that are consistent with the game are rare. To avoid this is to just flat out avoid getting mods altogether.

I have a version of that peeve where a modded game is really obviously modded.

Such as Fallout New Vegas. Great with mods... if only half of them weren't really obviously mods. It's like seeing a mic on camera. I understand that you need to have an item specifically for mod settings even if it does ruin the immersion, but can you please not have a thousand announcements at the very start of the game saying 'so and so mod is ready!' and 'How would you like your popcorn in this mod: salted, buttered, neither, or both?'

What, it doesn't have anything like SkyUI and MCM?

(I have to admit to playing through F:NV without mods, and before any DLC was released, and never coming back to it because the game was over!)

There wasn't anything like MCM for new vegas, but there was NVSE like SKSE. Lots of the mods i played had in-game configs but they were run as scripts from the pip-boy or some such, with the occasional housing mod having a new control console in it that did things.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

I don't like it when a game is almost...but not quite, keyboard only or mouse only. Forcing me to either have to periodically reach way over to make use of the mostly unused device or else to sit in a relatively less comfortable where both input devices are at hand.

I also dislike when the images in a game are positioned incorrectly; I play a game called Dungeons of Dredmor which is a great game except for the fact that several UI elemants' bounding boxes are slightly misaligned with their icons, and the visual effects for a couple of abilities appear one tile below the location of the effects they signify. Dungeons of Dredmor also has the other above problem of being almost - but not quite - mouse only.

It's a shame because it's a great game otherwise. And there's a lot of great mods for it that make it even better (speaking of which, does anyone know what the best way would be to contact the admins at Nexus mods to request that they add Dredmor as a supported game)

I had the same problem with Dredmor. I really wished there were mods which improved the interface, but every mod just seems to be new "stuff" - classes/spells, items, taunts. Nothing substantive, no new levels or mechanics, nothing really gameplay changing. I presume it is a result of the editor being limited to those aspects, making them really easy for people to do, but does not have access to things that need improvement or fixing.

What mods do you recommend that make it better?

You just could outright ignore some weapons which will spawn after you beat the game.

Well, like you said, there's nothing that fixes the interface. I was just talking about mods that expand he game normally, especially megamods like Faxpax, Roguish Renovation, and Monstrous Megapack. Thouh I suppose their many new items reduce the chances of getting the Atom-Smasher with it's bugged effect graphics as your best choice of weapon.

I've been working on a core file mod to at least fix the graphics from that radiation effect, but it's not as simple as I thought it would be.

OK, I've got the Radiation Cloud effects from expansion 3 displaying in the correct place, but unfortunately it also changes their appearance and kind of makes them look kind of underwhelming. Plus you have to overwrite game files.

(After backing up the original files) Take the files in the first zip in the linked article (RadiationA 16x32.zip) and overwrite the contents of expansion3/sprites/sfx/radiationA and take the second file (Expansion 3 spellDB - Radiation displays in correct square.xml) and rename it to "spellDB.xml" and drop it into expansion3/game, overwriting the existing file.

Another thing I really REALLY hate is when games don't ask you where on the disk to save your game

and I ESPECIALLY hate when a game's default save location is in a different place than where the game was actually installed. If I wanted to waste space on my main partition I wouldn't have installed Steam on a removable SD card!

While most games that don't ask you in-game can be directed via ini files, there are some games that just are adamant in saving things to the My Documents folder. No negotiation.
It's pretty terrible.

I hate it when people are way too quick to engage with any game that has even a tiny bit of writing. Case in point, Until Dawn. Everybody loves these characters, even though they follow the exact same "archetype plus one trait" pattern that has been around almost as long as slasher movies. There's the horny jock, the horny + smart jock, the horny cheerleader, the horny + bitchy cheerleader, and so on with not much else. They're all shitty, mostly unlikable people because it's supposed to be entertaining when they die in over-the-top gruesome ways. They're boilerplate run-of-the-mill machete fodder, but because Until Dawn is a CINEMATIC INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE WHERE EVRY CHOICE MATTURZ!!1! then people latch onto them like they're the most nuanced characters in all of fiction.

Speaking of, the CINEMATIC INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE WHERE EVERY CHOICE MATTERS is really wearing out its welcome for me, as well. Critics and players alike take these games so bloody seriously just because they're marketed as SERIOUS INTERACTIVE ART EXPERIENCES, regardless of the actual quality of the writing. If you want to treat games as art, then there are much better examples.

Yeah. I feel like I'm the only person who thinks the Telltale games are vastly overrated.
