Murderpuff.

For a creature without sight, I imagine they use them to communicate by electrolocation. It's hypothesized that creatures with different senses might perceive things differently, bats for instance might percieve sound similar to how we perceive sight. Perhaps the snickerdoodles "see" through electrical fields...
That's how I've interpreted it. I can't help but wonder what their "books" would be like...
That's true, their media would be very different. Maybe they have different metals arranged in different patterns to make information. Either that or they read by touch, like braille.

I lieu of baking names, I suggest the name Scotcharoo.

Moving away from baking names, I'd support.

I like the name Snickersnack for some reason.

Because the vorpal blade went like that?

Hmm, I think GWG should just pick a name. There are too many possible choices for a ballot.

Hrmm, well, are we a chaotic horror or an ordered horror or both? Lets pick two names at random then convert the letters to numbers and pick the name with the highest proportion of even numbers...

I will abandon Scotcharoo and throw my support behind Snickersnack.

Regardless, I imagine they wouldn't need books. I have a vision of a hive mind of sorts, where emotions, thoughts, and ideas are transfered by the natural currents of electricity. This of course, would undoubtably come in handy when fighting as a pack!

The great advantage of writing comes from the fact that it doesn't change with time. You don't want your taxes fluctuating based upon the extent to which folk want to pay them...

They could still use a braille-like alphabet, a system of extrusions and indentations (variations in texture) engraved on surfaces, allowing information distinguishable by touch. A race can only go so far without memory that doesn't depend on direct communication. Maybe they can have permanent electronic storage once they invent the transistor.

Well touch or sound.

They could have a scent based alphabet if they had 3d smell. They could have electrosenstivity and thus they can sense metallic pigments in ink. They might even just outright lack a alphabet and just a extremely sophisticated pharamonal form of communication.

There are quite a few ways a fictional alien species without sight could had a written (or quasi written) language.

Touch or sight alphabets require least technology. Audio or Olifactory information storage requires advanced technology to be viable. Until then, touch would be simplest and easiest to use, and thus would wind up used.

With just pherimones, they'd have no way to reliably store information for a long time, unlike with inscription or engraving. Oral (or electrical/pherimonal/any kind of face-to-face communicative) tradition can sometimes work, but it gets distorted over generations and can fail with just a few untimely deaths.
