I just played the demo for an hour or so and had a lot of fun with this. Question is, is the game deep enough to be worth $15? It's pretty hard, and I feel like I've only scratched the surface, but I'm worried that I've already seen pretty much everything.

I think the game is perfect if it was $7.50 and not $15. It's a niche roguelike like cave story but with a unique hook. It's very good, but I hope the price drops soon.

Also, it's damn hard for me with keyboard only, but that just might be old man reflexes.

I also have some issues with the controls on the keyboard from the demo... it was better with rebinding some of the keys, but it still didn't feel quite natural. I am also waiting for a sale of some sort, as the controls put me off for now.

I would be interested in hearing the opinions of the early adopters on the controls. Did you use the default keyboard, rebind the keys, or use a game pad? What did you think.

I'm playing the demo and I was actually coming in here to discuss the controls.  They aren't anywhere near precise enough for a bullet hell game, doubly so with permadeath.  Some of these rooms are basically impossible to navigate because of the controls.  That's with gamepad and keyboard.

Why, back in the old days ...

On topic:
Do new games made by small developers go on sale too? >_>

I assume they do... it's on Steam, ergo, it must go on sale. Maybe only back down to $10 at first. I imagine if one has enough willpower, it'd be on sale for $7.50 or so within the year. No real evidence to back that up, but with Steam Summer/Christmas Sales, I have to believe it'll be discounted at some point.

The demo was good, but I'm also of the opinion that it's slightly overpriced: it's going for the same price as La-Mulana, to make matters clear.
May buy it on sale, anyway.

I caved and bought it at the somewhat high price.

So uhm, buyer beware and don't get trapped like I did: The character upgrades get gradually more expensive as you buy them (Even the ones you don't actually buy - buy a health upgrade, the mana upgrade becomes more expensive), especially the enchanter upgrades. Enchanter upgrades must also be found before they can be unlocked. Also, since you lose all your money you don't use each time, I just bought what I could, instead of what would be optimal.

As a result, the dungeon is not that much easier, but everything is now so expensive that I can't afford to upgrade my character. I finally got a vampyric rune I wanted, and it costs 1250 to unlock - I almost NEVER get 1250 in a single play, and I was hoping to unlock a couple more runes but Nope! Those would cost 1500, 1750, etc. So I can't actually experiment with various combinations of runes.

The lesson is, DON'T buy anything you don't need and don't intend to use (except blacksmith upgrades - those never increase in price), even if you can afford it, or you'll end up with a fairly weak level 46 character that can't advance further.

After you unlock the Shinobi there's an upgrade to lower Charon's fee.  It's not perfect but it'll help you save up.

That's still all definitely true though.  The manor stat upgrades are expensive and don't do a huge amount, and you probably shouldn't be buying them just to be buying them.  Enchantress runes are great though, especially the mobility ones.  Vault I and Sprint I are pretty much required.

That very expensive upgrade saves you like 4% per level, with a max of like 5 levels. It's basically like saying 'here, start your new run with an extra... 50? 100 gold? If you spent a lot on this?'

Not worth it except to unlock the lich. (By the way, the lich's max health caps out/stops increasing at lower than the barbarian starts with... what's the point of the lich?)

The +10% gold found upgrades ARE worth it, but obscenely expensive. The +gold runes would help out, but like I explained, runes get impossible to afford very fast.

Actually it's 6% per level, but yes, it's not worth it. And are you sure about the lich's HP cap?

My method for gold-run is to clear the castle first before moving into the forest. It can net me something between 1k and 3k gold, depending on my luck with the chests. But I usually died with an amount of gold between 1k and 2k. My best run today was a 5.6k run, but I don't remember with which class. I think my best runs were the ones I played through with hokages or spelunkers. For runes, I tend to avoid +gold runes and prefer using vampiric runes, which increase survivability and therefore amount of gold found over a long period.

Now I just need to train myself to not get raped by the first boss. :D

On the price topic, I also think that this game should cost 10$ or less, but I also did pre-order this game at the price of 10$.
