Yes, it should be most entertaining to keep the sane one alive as the whole village perishes around them.
Not only entertaining, but it makes the villager a prime suspect for the ghoulish weirdness...especially if we play this right.

Keep in mind that there will be a roll deciding if we play this right. It's not like we're a master of human psychology, but our magesense should help.

The miners go about their work, toiling through another day at the ore face and filling crates with hematite. However, a series of distant, echoing crashes disturbs them.

Going to investigate, a miner finds that one of the ore crates has somehow fallen down the main shaft and shattered at the bottom. Picking up an empty crate and heading down the deeply sloping tunnel, the gravel under his feet shifts and he is pitched facefirst onto the crate. The edge of the container crushes his larynx and drives a splinter of wood into his throat as it is smashed.

Gasping for air and spitting out mouthfuls of blood as he helplessly slides down the tunnel, his life energy quickly fades into oblivion.

After an hour passes without his return, two more men are sent to search for him. While descending the treacherous slope, they find a trail of blood but no sign of the corpse, though they do find the broken and blood-spattered crate about halfway down the tunnel. While they search the deepest reaches of the mine for their colleague, you enjoy your snack.

Upon the unfortunate miner's death, a chill wind blows through the passages of the mine from the outside, carrying the unearthly howls of some great beast. The miners are left with a general sense of unease and fear, and several refuse to leave for their lunch break, instead consuming some of the beetle-ridden hardtack and stagnant water kept inside in case of emergencies.

As the day wears on, the sense of fear increases to the point of causing one man to suffer a nervous breakdown, shouting about the beast and how everyone is going to die. You delight in whispering inside his head and increasing his terror.

The beast is coming
The beast is here
The beast will kill your brother
And your only heir

Everyone will know pain
And die a horrid death
Crushed by rocks
Mauled by claws

Burned in a fire
Or fallen down a shaft
Perhaps driven insane,
Consumed by fear



Strength: 11 (+2 from Chaos, +3 from a good meal)
Mind: 10 (+3 from Chaos, +1 from a good meal)

You feel another change coming over you, though more significant than the last. For an instant your body disappears, only to be replaced by something more horrifying than any mortal could imagine. Glowing blue eyes of flame pierce the gloom at the roof of the tunnel while four long, spindly arms span the width of your hiding place. Your torso is little more than a whirling maelstrom of flame and shadow, while your head is much the same.

You are born, properly this time.

Captured souls: 1
(Captured souls can be eaten or used in the creation of minions)

Can we do anything in the way of immaterial minions, maybe something that latches onto a soul, eats hope, and excretes fanaticism? Meh, just eat the soul, it is too good to last...

Continue the good work with the fear and such.

We could enslave the soul and release it as a spectre with orders to bind itself to humans and devour hope and happiness, though controlling it would require considerable concentration.

Spectre -  A spirit trapped in the mortal realm, they are notorious for the amount of havoc they cause, and are a favorite tool of psychological warfare used by demons and more radical psykers, though these attempts often backfire on the latter. Spectres are capable of latching on to mortal minds, creating cases of possession, insanity, and worse. While not as severe as demonic possession, such cases are not taken lightly, as spectres use this ability to eventually kill the victim while sustaining themselves through the process, and often release another spectre when the process is completed.
In addition, spectres are able to interact with the material world through more direct measures, physically harming mortals with ethereal tooth and claw. In particularly cursed areas of the world, packs of spectres (often released by rogue psykers or demons) roam and are capable of rending the flesh from a mortal in a matter of seconds. Worse, they can only be harmed by magic or weapons incorporating silver in their construction.

If we make another few kills, we could attempt to raise the dead using a fragment of a soul and some of our Mind. We could also attempt to transform the living into ghouls, like we were so recently but far less powerful and intelligent. This would not require souls, but you would need to use more Mind in its initial creation.

At this point, you can probably go for a frontal assault on a small group of miners; like 2,3, or 4 of em. Kill them quickly, but leave them time to scream and draw attention to the murder. Drag one corpse off to eat, and leave the rest to be discovered.

Lets do this, but drag off three: one to eat, and two to raise later.

On two or three isolated miners in a dark tunnel? Who are already scared shitless? In most situations I'd agree with your assessment, but the mines are a perfect killing ground for us at this very moment, tight confines, easily controllable exits, and a population that is rather frightened. These is no guarantee these bastards will come back to the mines after what just happened. We might as well get greedy and take as much as we can before they leave.

Killing a few and leaving corpses will also make create fear and paranoia. You can set the murder scene up to make it look like one of the victims was responsible if that is the effect you want.
