Better go subtle all the way - never make it entirely apparent that something supernatural is going on. More of a vague sense of fear. Also add the idea that the beast that killed the villagers is outside. Waiting. Watching.

Not the last part. We want them to flee outside eventually so we can pick off stragglers unmolested. Don't say we are inside either. Then backup will know where to corner us. In fact, keep our entire existence vague. For all they know god is smiting people for their sins, or there is a psycho killer loose in town. The less the understand of our true nature, the better.

Or better yet, affect all of the miners with fear except one. Have him be one of the primary things in the mines to exude slight wrongness in the eyes of the others (if possible, strengthen his need to remain in the mine for longer than the others). When the others begin to leave, pick off the last miner leaving apart from the unafraid one.

Just a nitpick, but your average psycho killer doesn't maul and devour sheep.

I like this idea, except maybe the last one. Although if they're afraid to leave, that leaves us more fear, and more opportunities for a horror-movie situation...inspiring an RtD idea!
Maybe later.

Creepy.
Ideally, also make the visions and scary things strongest around him.

Okay, so basically turn everyone against one guy while implanting the idea that the beast is outside, while scaring the hell out of everyone? And picking some people off where they won't be quickly missed?

I think that it is time to lock in that answer.

No, no, no, not the idea that the beast is outside! That's old news. Now we're turning everyone against one guy, not touching or affecting this one guy in any way (aside from perhaps making him want to stay in the mine for a while - in addition we should make the hallucinations of the rest stronger around the Chosen One). We subtly frighten the rest, though, and the last one to leave apart from the unaffected one will be our dinner.

Any plans for the Chosen One afterwards?

Yes. WE SHALL CAUSE PARANOIA AMONGST PEOPLE.

Try to get the Chosen One alone with another miner. Then use ALL THE INSANITY on those two, and see what happens. Devour the other one, too, if we get the chance.

Or, alternatively, keep him around/alive as a scapegoat as our powers grow. People will suspect/know he is the "creature" or whatever, while we manipulate things from behind the scenes. Until we are strong enough to handle things on our own, this would work well to help keep us relatively anonymous.

Ideally, we would also find a way to pin the dinner's murder on the unaffected one.

Yes, it should be most entertaining to keep the sane one alive as the whole village perishes around them.

No. Do not do this. Not now, not later, not ever. It is contrary to leaving the Chosen One unaffected.

Do not harm or affect the Chosen One in any way. Stay away from him at all times.

Yes, it should be most entertaining to keep the sane one alive as the whole village perishes around them.

This is correct, and should be the plan.
