It's not official yet, but by tomorrow.... Watching a bunch of arch-conservatives suicide there own party. Pretty delicious. They seem to have forgotten why they replaced the last one with someone more moderate.

Sounds similar to the dynamics in the House (US Congress). The dynamics for selecting House speaker aren't dissimilar from the dynamics of choosing a PM, Congress was modelled after the British Parliament after all.

The really frustrating thing is that the outgoing prime minister was scuppered because he was implementing rules that we're required to implement under the Paris Climate Accords, and some of the key the people doing the scuppering has publicly supported those things beforehand.

A lot of it feels like he was set up to take a fall, and we're left without any clear energy policy yet again. Some of the people who want in were demanding "more coal plants" to bring down current electricity prices, yet coal plants take decades to build and the main reason they're not being built and are being closed down is because coal is just too expensive compared to the modern alternatives - unless you ignore the costs of the plants.

Let me guess, there is a 'war on coal' narrative going on over there too?

Coal's a big traditional industry here, we export a lot of the stuff to China too.

Forget the Melbourne Cup, the State of Origin, or the Ashes mate, it's Australia's favourite time of year, the Leadership Spill!

We've got three contenders out of the gate and Julie Bishop is already off the track first, receiving the lowest votes of all contenders. Peter Dutton puts in an effort but trips over a bunch of childcare money he's absolutely sure wasn't really his, and Scott Morrison takes the lead!

That's right folks, we've got a new Prime Minister!

Amusing, since Dutton's conservatives were the ones that started this whole farce, and they ended up backing a lame duck.

Meanwhile, the odds are for Labor to pick up next election.

Yeah, they're both extreme shitheads. Morrison is less terrible than Dutton, but that's like saying a fresh turd is better than a sat-in-the-summer-sun turd.

That was my take. Seems like half-Jeff Sessions, half-some Treasury wonk pushing trickle-down economics. Still perhaps less of a pompous arse than Peter Dutton, but, y'know...low bar.

Trying to remember the last time Australia had a government that wasn't mostly utter bastards.
