In that case, could someone post a summary of your guidelines for the soldier?
The cninderian or the modified human?

Whatever you want to make. It saves a lot of me rereading several pages of discussion looking for specifications.

Okay, let's aim for about 2m tall, heavily muscled, as agile as we can make 'em, give them rapid asexual reproduction, greatly enhanced senses, and a carapace similar to that of the mantis shrimp.  Along with that we should aim for redundancy of necessary organs, and possibly a distributed central nervous system, to make them even more resilient to damage.

What do you guys think?
EDIT: I am of course talking about our soldier.  If we have any willing hummies we can use a particularly nice specimen as the template, and then our soldiers also give us an exponential mana increase.
This is the one I personally want.  Look amongst the old, infirm, and invalid for our first candidates for transformation, offer it as a way of life extension, with obligatory military service being the price.

Um...as infantry? Sure, but let's figure out what our ranged attackers are going to be. They're kinda important...

Is that still the cniderian?
Ahaha, no. Firstly, cnidArian. Secondly, I was thinking of a laborer. Thirdly, that's...nothing like a cnidarian.
Something tells me you're not exactly a biology major...

I'd also like to do one or both of the following:
Make a tree which grows arrowlike thorns, and regrows them quickly. Later upgrades could include poison or something, but tons of free arrows is fine for now.
Have citizens search for skunks, bombardier beetles, spitting cobras, etc, for later transformation into troops/weapons/symbiotes.

I can agree with all of this.

Nope. It was a cnidarian you were talking about earlier, though.

You already have a party out on that. Tomorrow you should get the scouting information and trapping back.

My tendancy to throw together strange creatures makes the concept of an anemoneman with a shell quite logical. I was planning on making armor an option for it anyway, so I didn't think anything of it   :D

If we want our warbeasts to have armour, it might be good to use bonemail under the skin, as in the neck of a Stegosaurus. Probably a bit thicker than that, though. It's actually rather similar to how ankylosaurs used their armour (which would also be a good idea to use). By using armour like this, we'll have a far greater running ability (ankylosaurs were actually pretty good runners, despite their simply enormous girth), and they will basically take papercuts from arrows and small or slashing weapons. Although the force of the stab, as with real chainmail, might still cause some damage.

You realise that we're basically talking about making a giant land-bound jellyfish for our heavies, right?  And the idea is a sort of chitin plate, or whatever crabs make their armour out of.  Mainly because jellyfish don't have bones.

Land-bound anemone colony, and where did you guys come up with the idea that they would be heavy infantry anyways?

How would you apply the poison?  Would it be like jelly fish?  It would not be very effective against armored targets or the death clause of our friend.

More or less like that. And thin, expendable tentacles could quite easily slip past armor...and even dead cnidarians can sting.
