Isn't UK's healthcare kinda bad ? At least compared to some continental neighbours ?
You'll be fine as long as you pass the NHS Death Panel. Otherwise they execute you for being a waste of resources to the state.

By England I think you mean Britain there, or perhaps UK or United Kingdom or Perfidious Albion or... nearly any other sodding name that acknowledges that England does not equal Britain. You wouldn't call the EU Germany after all.

But yes, I would say Scotland (if I wasn't going to lump the rest of the UK in) is much more people friendly than the rest of the UK with our lack of tuition fees, no prescription charges etc. Indeed, if your country is in the EU you will be able to come and study here with no tuition fees too - something I would actually recommend. We've got pretty good universities, I'm proud to say. It's just the English, Welsh and Northern Irish that are buggered, although some Northern Irish students found a way of going via Irish citizenship to study here with no tuition fees.

As for people-friendly countries in general, I would say Sweden.

Actually, Wales is pretty fucking good to its citizens. Massive university subsidies, free prescriptions on top of NHS healthcare, predominantly low crime rates with soft touch policing (rural areas help here), and fairly transparent (if ineffective and fairly inefficient) government. Large public sector industries offer decent services for lower levels of tax funding than other areas of the UK. Transport links arent great mind you, especially since privatization (OH GOD THE TRAINS ARE HELL), and there is an undercurrent of deprivation and poverty (and its indicators) that we just cant seem to shake off since Thatcher killed our industrial sectors. We dont have many of the racially motivated tensions present in England (particularly the urban areas). An emerging high tech and green energy economy being shaped by our government to reduce the reliance on tourism and agriculture holds future promise, if we can prevent a continued brain drain and do something about generational poverty.

Is that some Irish slang?

Och, ah've ne'er been sae faushit in aw ma puff. Ah'm gonnae fin' oot whaur ye drink.

Actually now you remind me of my cousins husband Sharky.
I was never ever capable of fully understanding a single phrase from him.
My favourite i finally cracked after days of it lingering on my mind was "Whar do ya wark" he randomly asked me at the wedding.
It was DAYS before i understood that he meant WORK instead of WALK (and the phrase suddenly gained 1 + 100% more sense).

Anyway enough with this offtopic. If you want to send me any more insults/threats i can't possibly understand do so in a PM.

Why use a death panel? They'll just get left in a hallway anyway.

[Note - among, not THE best]

However France, Spain and Switzerland are all very good contenders and often frequently take higher places than Great Britain. America would place higher up - after all, it has much better access to medical equipment than just about any other country on the planet. But the whole pure privatized healthcare bombs that a fair bit.

Acces to medical equipment is about the same for all Western Countries. After all, much research in many fields, including medicine, happens in Europe, yet patents are often drawn up in other countries.

Here to correct myself.
By England i meant the entire UK and everything remotely connected to the British Isles (altho i have only seen North England *trollface.jpg* scotland).

Crivvens and michty, that's even worse! It's a good thing I can't whuttle your craig with my dirk over the internet... for you, that is.

Is that some Irish slang?

Nah, it's just English with a lot of Nordic words thrown in ;)

It isn't good sir, and he knows that - he was just joking. I would however slap you with my glove if I was wearing one. Of the Scots words I used only dirk was (likely to be) Nordic. I can explain myself further through PMs if you would like.

The US is a series of incredibly ridiculous people and laws held up and kept in line by a incredibly strong and steady frame-work. We wouldn't have lasted nearly as long without it. In terms of freedoms, in how many European Counties are you allowed to own a flamethrower? allowed to own a flamethrower? own a flamethrower  a flamethrower flamethrower

Fuck it, he's got my vote. /thread

More seriously I'm pretty sure just about everywhere is pretty shit. The best 'citizen-friendly country' you can hope for is the span of your arms. :P

Man, this thread is stupid.
You can't say that your country is good because another person who lives there will point out how it's consistently not,
and saying another country is good is hard to justify because even if you visited you need to live in a place for a long time to really get to know it.

From reading my own thread I have suddenly realized that no country on Earth can compare to the glory of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, so I will be moving there shortly. Long live the magnificent Great Leader!

Ahhh, no?

North Korea has the best Starcraft players in the world. Why, the Glorious Leader for Eternity invented Starcraft, as announced by a rare, all-white sea cucumber caught by a fisherman doing his patriotic duty off the coast of . . .
