I don't think a thread like this exists here. Maybe this topic has come up as part in another thread, but that's a different story.
Basically, my question is that what country on Earth has the most citizen-friendly, non-corrupt, free, independent government? I would have made this into a poll but I don't think polls can have so many different options.

And I'll just use my own thread to ask this other question too: do you think thread titles should follow the rules of title capitalization?

Typically they say scandinavia as a whole has the "nicest" places to live, and that... sort of seems to hold up, to an extent. They typically have more progressive policies, and the least bullshit and corruption. Nowhere is perfect though, and "least bullshit" still means a pretty substantial amount of bullshit from what I can tell.

Finland sounds pretty good for everything you described. Not necessarily everything ever, but from what I understand, they do pretty well on all the fronts you listed... compared to other countries, at least.

I'm actually temped to say the US. Despite all the shit we go thorugh, most of our laws and rights remain the same. Politicians in sex scandals go down, Corruption gets crushed, And shenanigans that I've seen alot in other coutnries are blocked by the constitution. If someone decided to post a video of Obama getting butt-F***ed by a slur spewing Clown, there ain't a damn thing you can do about it. Plus, laws in the US very quite often by state. It's not just the Feds. Hell, theres a state for any ideology. And many are honest, especially with the Freedom of Information Act. You can have trouble publicising it, but you sure can't hide it.
 
Frankly, it depends on what you value the most. In the US, we have alot of shit, but no one will ever ban your porn or newspaper. In Scandinavia, they are certainly quite progressive on most fronts, but it's not like they don't have a toll for it. In conclusion, I'd have to say Atlantis. They got their shit together. Sure, they don't admit they exist to us publicaly, but they sure don't hide info from their citizens.

Not all the Scandinavian countries are in the EU, so any European ruling isn't going to effect them much.

I'd also go with one of those as the most free / open / generally-not-screwed-up, not perfect by any means but ahead of anyone else I can think of.

I'm kinda shocked two people mentioned the USA though, as I'd have put them way down near the bottom of the ladder on personal freedoms and non-corruptness. But then I've not been there in years so maybe it's changed, either way it's certainly not where I live (UK), we are broken

But yeah, if you like shitty cold weather, and enormous tax pressure*, by all means come join us in Scandinavia. Bring warm clothes for the summer, hope you survive the winter!

*(Possible benefits include; free education/healthcare, cheap children care and theater/movie tickets and very good prisons, tall blonde women. Generally friendly, pacifist and very English speaking nations with hilarious English accents.)
