Riker was Kirkiest in Season 1.

Then he got the beard.

Mostly because he was supposed to be like Kirk in the first season.

but notice how annoying he was?

Everyone liked that beard. There's a bloody trope named for it.

Random question for the more familiar with the varying series.

Borg tribbles. Is that actually a thing?

In Star Trek Online, there are borg tribbles.
On T.V., that would be cool, but no.

Also, 80th post, by far a new record for a thread of my design.

Spending hours grinding for Dilithium in a super warship ain't canon in any book :P

Story missions sucked, and ground combat was worst thing ever.

It was fun until lvl50, though. User-made missions were quite good, too.

New topic:

Which is the worst example of technobabble:

1. "inverting the phase polarity of the deflector array" (to do whatever magic deus-ex-machina was required of that week's episode)
2. Midichlorians.

1. That just blatantly doesn't make sense.

2 is an obvious reference to mitochondria, actual thingies in your cells that give you energy. Thus, less ridiculous. Midichlorians are also an example of a retcon though, and a very bad one, hence the hated status.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Though supposedly, Lucas had the midichlorian idea way back in '77.
If you believe Word of the Creator.
Which nobody does.
Because George Lucas is a lyin' sonuvabitch.

I like ToS best.  Spock is one of my favorite characters in any medium, and I just never glommed onto anyone in particular in TNG.  Well, Q was nice, but he didn't show up enough.

Honestly when I first heard "Midichlorians" I thought it was pretty smart but that was because I thought it was a bacteria that only appeared in force sensitive people (possibly feeding off the force) and thus it being used as a test of force sensitivity made sense.

Anyhow the second makes less sense.

Reversing the Polarity of the deflector array makes sense. The issue with Startrek is they often do the same thing no matter what they are doing.

To the extent that the polarity of the deflector array must be "uselessness" since reversing and inverting it seems to make it do whatever they want.

I know comic books and novels are non-canonical in Star Trek, but I am curious about them.  Are any of them any good, or even average?
