Is this a proper thread to talk about Steven Universe?

Because oh my god Steven Universe

I like Steven Universe.  Not nearly on the same level as Adventure Time, but it's charming and I really like the unconventional diversity of the characters.

An interesting article about Pen Ward stepping down from his lead position on Adventure Time.

Seems like a pretty real guy.  Makes sense.

I found the animation he was talking about at the end of the interview. It's kinda like improv storytelling put to animation. I like it!

I'd say Adventure Time hasn't been good lately.

But then again Steven Universe is sort of going downhill already... What with them starting to advance the mysteries too quickly.

Oh no they developed the characters and are advancing plot!?

And Adventure time is less of a show about !!whacky adventures!! and more about developing characters and exploring postapocalype ooh!?

Oh man.

Oh man.

You mean adventure time or Steven Universe?

The issue with them both right now is more or less pacing.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I mean... that Mystery show (That I cannot believe I cannot remember) also has started doing this... But in their case it felt more like snipping away worn out plotlines because they weren't needed anymore.

Gravity Falls that is it! and honestly in Gravity Fall's case it was all the better for it.

It FEELS like Adventure time is on its last season, which isn't true they have one more after this. With the clip they are going.

I liked the hints and subtlety it had before- now it feels stale and contrived.
They tried to push the envelope and ended up just burying the show.

Some of the elements I feel shouldn't have been made prominent plot points.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And kept in the background only showing up at important times when it is needed.

I hope they make an offshoot series from adventure time with all the mismatched characters going on random adventures, like they did with the root beer guy's episode or when Marcy and Bubblegum went looking for her doll. Stuff like that felt like real adventures and not so much plot line.

Except the Marceline/Bubblegum doll-hunt episode was very much plot.  It openly confirmed a major relationship that had been hinted at previously.  It just didn't beat you over the head with it throughout the episode.  That's one of the things I love about Adventure Time is the sort of passive way they develop the characters and the world.  Felt very unique and mature.  But I'm a couple seasons behind watching, and it sounds like they've been abandoning that?

Ya I'm behind at least two seasons.

But that's what I mean that episode by itself wasn't entirly plot, it was just one character going to another for help then going out on an adventure. They could have done similar, and probably have, without but plot bits

If anything it's been getting better at that.

There are a few episodes with guest animators, and Magic Man doing his Magic Man thing. Which I think is what most people are complaining about. But I absolutely adored the circle of life episode.

I think people only disliked the computer virus episode.

Which I only disliked because the colors all ran together and it was often hard to see what was going on... but otherwise? I thought it was a good episode.

Magic Man is just starting to become unfunly cruel to me xD
