So the round starts, and I'm yelling at the crew to turn up their suit sensors (some never do, even after five hours), and trying to get my chemist to start being useful. In addition to the chemist, I have one other surgeon working under me. The Captain comes in for a DNA scan before heading off to get power online, since no engineers signed up. Some time passes, and I'm watching the crew monitoring computer, still trying to get everyone to turn their sensors up, when I notice "Unknown" is pretty seriously wounded in the Captain's Cabin. I call the HoS (the only other head for most of the game) to the Bridge and eventually we get the AI to open up the door to the Captain's cabin. His cabin is empty, but in his quarters we find a gibbed up body.
That was pretty unsettling, so I went to the bar to get something to drink, and made small talk with the bartender for a while. Then I get a call from the HoS. Random gibbed body parts started appearing around the station. There's a short conversation with the HoS and detective: no one besides the Captain is missing, and the blood does not appear to contain DNA. After this, things start to slowly descend into madness.
I try to clone the Captain from the file I have on disk, but all the cloning machine does is spit out an error and a bunch of blood (it didn't work because technically the Captain's death was a suicide). After this, I inform the HoS that he should assume the duties of acting Captain. We're meeting on the bridge when a bloody man in a Welding mask appears in the hallway in front of us, tapping on the glass with his fire axe. The AI immediately locks down the bridge, and the tapping continues for a while. Eventually he breaks through the glass panel and the electrified grille before being stopped by the blast doors. It takes a while for us to collect our bearings and when we finally get off the bridge (me with a shiny new taser) there isn't any sign of the welder.
However, even more spooky stuff is going on. A weird message appears on the news boards and notes start to be found with the random gibs. I notice on the crew monitor that the Lawyer, Donald Corleone, is injured in the bar. Apparently he got into bar maintainance and the door had welded itself shut behind him! I remembered that a mysterious welder had appeared on my reception desk, so I run across the hall to fetch it, but by the time I return the door had unwelded itself and the Lawyer was free. There's short scuffle when Officer Beepsky comes in and attempts to arrest Corleone and I'm running after him to tend to his wounds and then Beepsky comes in and cuffs the Bartender. I get the cuffs off the Bartender and am about to leave when Corleone offers me a suit. He doesn't have time to induct me into his gang because the Welder appears in the kitchen. When he comes through the door I stun him with my taser and shout for the bartender to get the handcuffs, which were behind the bar. Just as the HoS and Detective arrive (or is it Captain and HoS now?), armed and armored the welder disappears, as suddenly as he arrived.
Things are quiet for a while, I settle down in Medbay and tell the Chemist to start making hydrochlorate for the syringe guns, the Surgeon records my DNA on a disk in case I have to be cloned. The AI pretty strongly hints that we should investigate Surgery. It's covered in guts and gibs. There's a note on the floor that says "help me" or something to that effect. I clean up the mess with a spray bottle and then the welder says "i can't breathe" over the intercom and all the air disappears from surgery. The entire medbay is suddenly without atmosphere. I escape into the maintainace tunnel with the detective, while I configure my internals. Roman, the chemist, doesn't get his on in time, and I run back into medbay and place him in Cryo.
This begins what was probably 1 or 2 hours of "trapped in the medbay". The medbay doors are welded shut, effectively trapping the three medical staff inside. Roman has and recovers from a mental breakdown. The atmosphere returns and disappears a few times. The welder and a creepy guy with a scythe teleport in and out. Voices come from the intercom and from out of thin air. Objects move around. The firelocks activate and deactivate. The lights flicker and explode. We start shouting back at the ghost, trying to get a sane response. The shaft miner is hacked to near death by the welder standing in the lobby with three doctors looking on, unable to interfere, though in the end the doors unseal long enough for me to grab him and stick him in a Cryo tube. Before he can heal, the welder appears again and smashes the oxygen tanks, releasing superchilled air into the medbay. I pull the miner from cryo and there's a frantic moment when I stand in the freezing air trying to stabilize him enough that a sleeper can heal him while the welder attacks me. We retreat to the Chem lab where it's a little warmer. A multilated corpse rolls up to us strapped to a sleeper bed. We try to clone it and fail. It's warm in genetics so we hide there for a while. Eventually, we break through the windows on the west side of the medbay and meet up with the lawyer, Carleone.
The five of us attempt to get into the Bridge, fail, meet up with the CE, muck around in the dark and fight the vines for a while. I split off and with the AI's help eventually access the Bridge and call the shuttle. My entire department and the Shaft Miner escape on the shuttle, while the Acting Captain and CE are bent on investigating engineering.
Oh man, I just realized I left Runtime behind
