Are you sure? I heard that the new Ukrainian government will be composed mainly of soldiers/war heroes and oligarchs/puppets of oligarchs.

So you are saying it will be a government?

It will definitely be a government.
But what good comes of it I don't know. By puppets of oligarchs I didn't mean the overstatement of calling regular politicians that, because they make some deals with the moneyman for their own gain, but rather completely subservient people.

Does the USA's politicians have a lot of soldiers in their ranks?

Most countries have a strong affinity to elect military men and women.

Hey, by the sounds of things it might actually be functional!
I seriously doubt that, unless you consider "facebooking/twittering all day every other day" and "stealing vast sums of money" as functional.

Also Poroshenko would still be a President, and we all know at this point what that means.

If only.

When he was elected as a President, he made a promise that Ukrainian soldiers in ATO will be paid 1 000 grinva per day.

Guess how much they receive in reality.

He made a promise that they would be paid about 7 times the average wage?

Seriously where are these countries? Unless you count people who became soldiers as part of compulsory drafting, and leaving as soon as possible, I have a hard time believing this.

Oh.

He has also promised at that time that the ATO will be finished in a few weeks.

I think he didn't actually expect the Russia to intervene directly to help the separatists. He expected a little victorious war, and instead he got... this.

Well of the 7 presidents France has elected since WWII, 5 of them have front line combat experience.
Every British Prime Minister from Churchill until Thatcher had combat experience except for Alec Douglass-Home who volunteered but was medically ineligible.
Canada had 3 vets as prime minister in a row.
Ireland had about 5 prime ministers in a row who were military men until their history of neutrality exhausted their supply.

If someone says something implausible one time you generally dont put too importance on it.

Found a Ukrainian map of the territory controlled by separatists over time:

This doesn't look very good for Ukraine...

This map shows that Ukrainians have been on the offensive up until late August and that DNR/LNR controlled territory has been constantly shrinking. Not bad for them, not good for DNR and LNR.

Big wars tend to involve lots of people, while there have been plenty of presidents who weren't in the military, there have been many who fought in wars as well.

So Russia seized a Lithuanian vessels in international waters after that vessel shortly crossed into Russia EEZ. Combined with the previous abduction of a Estonian intelligence agent inside Estonia, it definitely looks like Russia is probing the Baltics.

Yeah, salami tactics all the way. The potential gains are enormous, if Little Green Men start showing up in the Baltics and NATO doesn't react, Putin will have effectively destroyed NATO.
