A non-discussion, news-only thread has my full support. I got 90% of my news about the Nameless Topic from here, and would love that to continue. The manager of the thread can be impartial enough if they just post the links. And if someone vehemently disagrees on the reliability of the source and wants to warn of that - I'm sure their comment could be added without burning down the forums.
Not so sure this would work, if any link needs commenting, there is a potential for debate, as we have seen plenty of times in the previous threads, and then it gets ugly quickly.
Also I agree that the discussions are the more interesting part, not the news themselves. I frequent plenty of newssites, so I don't need a thread for the news only. Having Ukrainian Ranger comment on stuff from his point of view or Guardian GI explaining how Russia perceives the West or generally hearing how people in different countries view the events is a lot more interesting than just posting links to news articles. Learning something is the most the majority of us can do anyway.
No idea how this could work without having a closed circle (which would obviously limit the discussion a lot) or without descending into chaos again (which is likely to happen if it's open for everyone).
If anyone would find a solution, I'd probably participate, though I have been horribly busy in the last weeks and I don't know how active I could be.

And now for something completely different:
Since Bay12ers seem to like online surveys, here are some for the European Election 2014:
votematch.eu - this one unites several voting tools from different EU countries.
euandi.eu - this one is more generalized, while it has options for every country, the questions seem to be the same.
