you misunderstand me, there isn't a line but there is a difference. it's just that it's such a huge difference that was built so gradually that there isn't a precise cut-off. pariah dogs and mustangs are breeds of dog and horse, they get names because they're different from other breeds. the only difference between a browt and the thing the traders brought is that the thing the traders brought has a stuff piled on top and is tame. a tame pariah dog is still a pariah dog, as a tame mustang is still a mustang.

Not pariah dogs, the...whatever you call those stray dogs that aren't really tame that hang around villages and whatnot.

the term refers to either a specific feral breed of dog, or is otherwise a generic term for stray dog, much like the term stray dog

The fact that such a term exists is proof of my point.

The proof of your point is that when folk speak to you they get stabbed! (Wheeee puns!!!)

greet the newcomers with our blue hat to look offical and superior.
gut the browts for the filfth pit and burn one on the alter.
+1 most definitely, although I suspect that the post-author intended that we not gut the trader-browt...

Step 1: Agree to call tame browts packbacks. Please.
Step 2: Catch a live and ideally unharmed browt.
Step 3: Leave it tied up in camp somewhere where there are people who pass by, but not where it can cause trouble. Make sure someone feeds it well.
Step 4: When the browt is used to the feeder (and future trainer), have him take the browt for exercise. More trust, and exercise is always important.
Step 5: Continue building trust.
Step 6: We should have a packback.
Step 7: Go to step 2 and repeat.
Step 8: See if packbacks breed in captivity.
1: No. Well, maybe, I have no idea what the pun is...
2: Most forms of taming probably involve a fair amount of torture. Mental torture is generally preferable, but physical works too...
3: Consistent feeding is more important than abundant feeding.
4: We will really need an enclosed pen to do any taming.
5: Meh
6: Ackack is only a good name for projectiles from an automatic weapon.
8: Ummm, we would need a *lot* of them, and good quality too, to go into business, and we only really need the one for carrying water from the river, and we should eventually channel water from the river into a moat, and then we can set it up to have a fire to vaporise the water from the moat and have it collect in a raised reservoir with pressurised taps and so forth... Which just leave hauling things out to merchants and such, which would mean making our extensive cave-city's tunnels big enough to accommodate a browt, its pack, and probably space for another one going in the opposite direction... So I am against taming them, except for food and sacrifices, but we should get ridgebacks for those...

It's always an odd feeling when you wake up and see that there are another three pages of posts in your adventure, only to realize they are all about tame/domesticated/pun animal names.

Turn 28:

Site:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You and Monty talk to the visitors and decide against cutting them up into little bits. After some discussion you learn that they are trappers from a village called Narg on the northern side of the mountains. They are heading back to sell their catches, or catch rather as they had a very unsuccessful trip.

After some more discussion you learn that they only came down this path to investigate because they heard a tree being felled. Apparently there have been rumors of some people heading into the pass to found a village but no one paid much notice. They will be sure to tell their village about this though. Their own village is along the road on the north side of the mountains and is easy to find. Narg is a predominantly human village of hunters, trappers and the odd vegetable farmer.

The trappers notice the deerple skins you have and ask if they can buy them from you for a yollar each. The skins could help them soften the blow of this bad trip.

The carpenter takes some wood out of the stockpile and starts making handles for tools.

At first you think Gargle and his assistant want to talk to the visitors but then you see that they are just waiting for the hunters to get over here with their catches.

You also note that their animal is a Pack Browt because it is a Browt with a pack and any other name would be ridiculous.

South(Stream):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Ridgebacks are a bit confused by the Browt legs but after some sniffing and suspicious looks they begin to eat the meat.

East:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
After gathering some blue and red berries the pair decides to head back to the village.

Agreed. Sell the skins, a yollar seems fair enough and we have little use for them at the moment. And we can get more.

There appears to be an error in the previous update, the hats is not worn...

Offer a plank of wood for all of their guts...

Deploy witty banter and punctuation to improve relations with the trappers and gain experience.

Wear your hats already!!!

Jaymi is to compile a treatise on the behaviours and habits of ridgebacks. While attempting to evade situation that result in becoming food.

Invite the trappers to join your population at a party. Everyone except Jaymi is invited.
