I'm cautiously optimistic that something might get done now that there is the vaguest sense of consolidation of parties in either house. Congress is in a position to at least look like they are doing something constructive, which may be better than the gridlock hell that has been occurring. I hope. I haven't been keeping any track of politics lately.

Also, I am in the vaguest sense a Republican. Not a strong one, but a Republican nonetheless. Here's hoping for actual progress and constructive dialogue between the two parties!

Mm, this quote from misko has the ring of truth.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Either it'll be continued gridlock, (republicans started a deadly trend with their perma-filibuster), or it'll just be veto-bait made explicitly to try & make the president & the dems look bad. Preferably both for the republicans, so as to prompt the democrats to do more perma-filibustering & offload the GOP's 'party of nope' label & improve their chances in 2016.
In short, campaigning for 2016 has begun.
Nothing will get done because the president has veto and the republicans don't hold a super-majority.

Now I'm expecting Obama to run into the Capitol and sit on the Godthrone, at which point the entire building city transforms into Washingtron Hyper-X, wielding the Washington Monument as a weapon.

I'd forgotten about that crazy-ass thing.

Yeah, florida was off from 210 by about 2.5%. Kinda' disappointed, it would probably have helped the legal system down here a bit. Not as much as full 420, but eh. Irritating thing is a majority was for it basically everywhere. Just... not enough of one. Meh.
What does "210" mean in this context? All I know is that it's San Antonio's area code (thanks, rappers using area codes for cities) and the course number of organic chemistry I here.

Half 420 (i.e. medical marijuana, but not full legalization).

Now that it's legal in Alaska, I wonder how long it will be before one of the Palins is spotted smoking a blunt.

Speaking of her, I see that she issued a statement warning the GOP that "you didn't build this" victory.

Wasn't that the same phrase that got Obama in hot water?

I don't follow politics much any more, and I don't have any experience with political science, but I think at least part of the results can be blamed on the NSA leaks. Like, I think leaking them was a good thing, but the NSA's stuff got blamed on Obama (he's not clear of responsibility, but it's not like he personally oversees them) and therefore all Democrats by association, therefore pushing a certain contingent of moderates to the Republicans when they heard "Those socialist Dems are personally inspectin' every one of your emails!"

Personally I think it's due to the whole anti-Obama angle that so many Dem-candidates were campaining on, which I'm guessiong they're doing in an attempt to go along with the similar sentiment among the Rep-voterbase.
Basically they're trying to appeal for people who wouldn't vote for them anyway, while putting off their potential voters who may or may not notice the dissonance with the same candidates' previous electoral stances.

... to others, did any of that actually happen? Last I checked the strongest support for the NSA's bullshit was coming from republican sectors. Can't recall any meaningful republican resistance to it.
