It would not surprise me if their residence was warded. We could just conquer the town and then force them to choose to either keep the peace in an Evil village or abandon it...
Yeah, but having a net of corruption is way cooler and could help to hide our presence. Also, we just have to talk in his mind, and, I have to say it again, we are gas, we can infiltrate. If we need to distract guards we can just throw a body over a roof and enter afterwards, it's not very difficult.

Possession can be a reasonable alternative if we screw it.

Remember that possession is much harder if the target is good.

You end up with empowering presence, and Mark of Carnifex. (The writer is not sure if this was correctly figured out. If this is wrong, tell me.)
The residence of the general is, sadly, very close to the castle. By extension, there are a lot of guards nearby. That would make it quite difficult to get some hobos for getting his agenda.
It should be possible, at least. You float on over to the place and enter the place with no issue, as nobody ever look up.
Then, the whispers start. Before you really get going, he wakes up from them and grabs his sword in a flash. Fortunately, you managed to hide under his bed. (roll=5)

You manage to remain hidden like this, but as he is about to go get the guards. Of the holy kind.
A possesion seemed in order. You enter him by surprise, and you take on your snake form.
When you arrive in his mind you feel wrong. You feel sick, like someone who ate something bad. Everything here seems white and shiny.
You have an intense feeling of not belonging here, to the point that it's discouraging. However, you stride (well, slither) on. You come to a large, golden door leading into a huge chamber.
The general is standing in a huge marble chamber, wielding a sword and steel armor. You wouldn't be able to sneak up on him unless he was distracted. You could just poke around in his mind.
If you poke just the right spots, you can expose the rotten parts of this apple. Which would make him weaker.

Of course, once you did that you may have a better area to fight in and a less powerful opponent but said opponent is likely to be quite angry.
This can only be done with a well-warded mind. Others just let all those nasty bits hang out.

Poke around in the side chambers some.

Look for locked doors. Can we gassify ourselves into them?

Eh, we should have planned this out more before making a move.

Is there anyway we can corrupt his mind from the inside instead of just possessing him?  I'd rather have him as a servant than a host.

Our power-level is too low for that...

If only we had dark presence, we could find a cute little brain mascot around here somewhere and juice it up before making our get-away...

Time, if I recall, is rather low on our priorities at this point, so we may as well just explore the low-security areas...

Well, we can at least weaken his mind? Or just explore, it doesn't matter.

Also, Kitten Snot, you forgot to add the new cultists from our last night raid.

You decide to take a look around in this mind-scape. However, before you can get away, he notices you.(roll=1)
So you slither away as fast as you can, but there is nothing to hide behind.
You hear his footsteps coming closer, and dodge his first strike. (roll=11 +2 small size=13)
He attempts another swing, but you are ready for him. Before his sword connects, you bite his wrist. He drops his sword in pain. (his roll=4 your roll=20)
Unfortunately, he is strong enough to continue fighting, and he rips you off his arm.

He bends over to grab his sword, and but you are faster and give a quick tackle to the back of his knee, letting him fall on one knee. (his roll=1)
You bite at him and hit his VERY tender parts. He screams in horror and pain, allowing you to continue damaging him with your poison.
When you fall off, you managed to rip his ball-sack open. You gag and get that stuff out. He, however, has the mental fortitude to heal from this, and proceeds to do so.(his roll 20)
Your poison remains though.

He now grabs his sword, and attempts to hit you once more. You dodge it narrowly. You attempt to hit him, but he retaliates getting in a good whack with his sword.
The flat of the blade, fortunately. It still hurts a lot. He attempts to hit while you flinch, but you get away.(his roll=15 your roll=9)
You give another bite, hitting him on the head. He gives a yelp and rips you off, leaving long scratches in his head. (your roll=15)
By now your poison is clearly starting to show. He looks tired and seems winded.
Despite that, he swings, and cuts your tail off. You are now slowly dying.

Then, you get a good bite in, and hit his throat. Your fangs go deep. (your roll 19+1 unexpected after mortal wound=20)
He pull you off, and throw you. It's the last thing he does before falling to the ground, attempting to stop the bleeding.
It now comes down to who bleeds out first.
Your roll=14. His roll =7

He finally dies, and you take control of his body.
This fight tired you out immensely, though, and the wounds were bad enough that some carried over.
You stop the bleeding with some bandages he had in his bathroom.  You still feel very, very weak.
Sir? Are you alright? It's not like you to be up at this hour. A guard says from behind the door.

What do you do?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Once more, you got lucky. The only way you could have won was if you killed him under 3 turns after you started bleeding out.

We honestly get the most amazing rolls.  Tell him we're alright, just had a nightmare.  Say we're going to go out and take a walk to clear our head.  Then maybe we could get this host healed up at our base?

Too suspicious, we should look at his mind and see what knowledge he has over the local mob. And try to act normal, he is useful only if we manage to go unnoticed while we disband the city guard.

Say you thought you heard something at your door, but it was probably just a large rat now that you think of it. The years of service have kept you keen.

Unless our wounds are showing in any way. Say you woke up to a thief in your house, then, and that he got away before you could see his face. This may alert the guard to suspicious activities, but it keeps you safe for now.

Something like that.
