Well, I went ahead and genned another world without picking the "no monsters" mod this time, but I'm still not seeing any zombies at all. I have 'static zombies' on and 'roaming hordes' off, and no mods selected. I bumped up the 'city size' to 8 and started in Summer. I also have NPC spawns on (but not static NPCs).

I'll keep playing for a while, maybe new characters have some sort of grace period now. (I'm using latest experimental build, btw)

"No monsters" removes everything but wildlife. It's kind of a "life after humanity" version of Cataclysm.

What you need is in the worldgen options, a setting called Classic Zombies.

I use the "mundane zombies" mod. I don't think it removes labs etc. like the "classic zombies" option.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

Yeah something is definitely wrong here. I found one of those houses with 'paper walls' (i.e. a wasp nest) and there's just nothing. I haven't seen a single non-NPC creature in the world so far.

It's weird because I didn't pick any mods at all this time. :/

I think huge city sizes are broken. I forget how or why. Best to stick with 4 or 5.

I'm running an experimental I got last night (I think) and I use size 8 cities. Works fine. Dunno about the latest one. Try genning a new world and see if the problem persists. If it does, go over to their forums and see if anyone else had the bug, or report it. You could try re-downloading as well. Could've screwed up there.

Mundane zombie removes the special zombie types but leaves all the other goodies in. Classic zombies removes all the other goodies and leave in the mundane zombies. No monsters removes even the zombies.

Quick Question: Does fire completely burn up zombie corpses?

I think if you have a raging fire, it does, but I'm not sure anything less than that will.

EDIT: There's a thread from a long time ago on their forums saying it doesn't burn bodies, but I couldn't really find anything recent. You should try it and then tell us. For science!

Would it be too much to ask to go a SINGLE day without a lightning storm?

Would it?

Yes, this is why the console in the shelter is marvelous, light forever!

I picked the left behind start, so i spawned in a random house. There ARE no nearby shelters with consoles. Guess I could move to a bank....

Best thing is to find an atomic nightlight. Never goes out AND portable!

Light strips are pretty efficient, as are fires if you find a house with a fireplace.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Quick Question: Does fire completely burn up zombie corpses?
Raw zombie kills: The clothes dropped will flare up into a fire big enough to completely burn the corpses.
Cleaned zombie kills: I don't think a corpse itself will burn, never tested it.
Butchered tainted meat: Doesn't burn, I don't think, but one scrap of paper should be enough to burn down the whole stack of meat.

You can also simply butcher and leave, if you've got the time, the tainted meat will rot to nothing.
