Don't the nail board have a chance to be disarmed when trod upon?

If they do, I never saw it. I use caltrops most of the time anyway, but they take a bit of luck to find.

Are caltrops really that hard to make though? Couldn't you just Bend some nails together with a rock or hammer?

Need to be found in a book first, I believe. Or require decent trapping skill.

Nah, calptrops are a low-level recipe and are autolearned. The biggest hurdle in making them is tools (they need smithing tools ie a forge, an anvil, etc.) and time.

There are actually two caltrops recipes in the stable version. One requires a forge and stuff, the other requires higher skill, maybe in trapping too, I forget, but only requires like nails/wire/barbed wire and a rock I think.

It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

Bolt cutters. A farm or FEMA camp can provide enough caltrops to last a year.

Barbed wire, not caltrops, although I did find a farm with a farmhouse that was surrounded by various traps including pits, caltrops, bear traps, and tripwires. Not sure if that's normal, but it's cool.

Cleared my first mine today (the one I'm living on top of, actually). I was pretty nervous; as far as I can tell they're a lot more dangerous than labs. My character was armed with a gas mask, a modded Mossberg 500, and a few minor mutations.

The first Dark Wyrm I ran into was a scare; I thought it was the boss, up until I one-shot it with a point-blank shotgun blast. The only other danger was a bit of lava (easily avoided) and some toxic gas (which the mask protected me from). The bottom of the mine turned out to be a Spiral Cavern that had a disappointing lack of Spiral Kings, Spiral Power or anything other than useless spiral rocks. I even tried placing a spiral rock in each spiral, thinking it was some sort of puzzle, but that did nothing either. I'd assume there's multiple endings, but it was a bit anticlimatic ;l

Got a few vortex stones, though. They look cool.

I've died five times.
It's awesome.

So I haven't played since Zoose was added.  What's new worth mentioning, and what's worth exploring on my own?

I'm sure someone else can pull up a changelog, but do you mean up till current experimental or stable? I haven't been caught up with the experimental, I only played the latest stable thus far.

I don't know what zoose is? There is a post in announcements listing experimental features. I like the hordes.
