Why is this version called "Ma"?

Yeah, look it up on the forums, teams are translating it into a bunch of languages already.

Every topic has already been discussed. Not in this thread, mind, but discussed nontheless.

I feel like we were a little more clever about it this time around, though.

On the latest Linux console build, when I try to run it I get the following error:
Error while loading shared libraries: liblua5.1.so.0: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory.

Edit: Same result on the graphical build.
The experimentals now have a dependency on lua, you need to install the lua package for your distro.
Debian: lua5.1
Ubuntu: liblua5.1
Fedora: lua

Hmm. Apt-get has been acting up on this machine, and manual install didn't work. This is going to be... challenging.

Ok, so I got liblua5.1 installed (missing apt-get module), but now my graphics seem to be messed up. Instead of verticle and horizontal lines, I get 'q's. Is that... supposed to happen?

Edit: switched to the graphical version, works just fine.

[Insert joke about the Q continuum]

[insert snarky comment about the uselessness of this post]

Anyways, i need to rethink starting entirely. And i need some help on this.

I make a 9 STR 12 INT (everything else 8 ) guy with schizophrenia and some other non-vital traits, then i pick fleet footed.
I pick lvl 4 in piercing weapons, 1 in mechanics and survival. Then i pick backpacking survivor.

Then i go for the knife spear. Thing is, i always die when i try to go to the city, i have nothing to counter the special zombies with, especialy not dogs.. yuck.

How do you guys start out? Without changing starting points, that is.

I'm on a play through right now, and it was legitimately a random "play now!" character that gave me cannibal which is useless quick. But it also gave me night sight. Stats are 11, 11, 7, 6 and by virtue of most play nows, I had zero starting points and no professions.

I've killed a Hulk (with a burning house, admittedly) and I've managed to raid a few stores in static spawn. No dogs! I have an aluminum bat right now but I used to use a crowbar, and before that a pipe.

Honestly it's been my best play through yet.

Cannibal is great for emptying schools, as you don't get guilty about killing.

In my last cannibal game I decided to be a strict cannibal, eathing ONLY human flesh. Made the game much more interesting: with NPCs rather than wildlife, it made it feel more like hunting and when was the last time your prey shot back at you with a Saiga-12?

I usually focus more on stats than skills. Strength gives you a bonus to damage, which is always nice, and massively boosts your carrying capacity and health which is important. My current starting loadout is 12 str, 8 dex, 10 int, 11 per. I usually prefer to grab a pipe for a weapon for that nice +3 hit bonus. I take a full compliment of negative traits for the extra 12 points. The only trait I always take is Fast Healer, since it basically gives you a full health bar overnight which is extremely useful. I often take Robust Genetics and Fast Reader as well. This leaves about 4 points for skills and a profession.

With the current build, Tailor is my new favorite profession. Spend another point to start with 2 additional tailoring skill and you can craft a full set of a backpack, cargo pants, trenchcoat, and reinforce it all. Smash the windows for two sheets (which you can cut up with the scissors for 40 rags total) and disassemble the strings (into 6 inch strings, which you can further disassemble into 50 thread apiece) for the materials to craft a full set of reinforced clothing. Now you're ready.

When you get to town, lure zombies into bushes, light the bush on fire with your matches, and clobber the zombies with your pipe. It's all downhill from here.
