Return to Hadria, personally train Wep proficiency (blades)

Bored, and with little else to do, Hetairos fetched his sword out of its display case and began to practice with it.

Leave Itanos & Secamis as they are, though a governor will be appointed, they were wise to promptly join the Empire and, as such, it'd be barbarism for anything but the strictly necessary to be forced upon them, their reaction was one to be encouraged; Itanos & Secamis are made into an Imperial Province, but its ruling class and infrastructure are otherwise left intact and the Emperor promises future investments through which to repair the damage caused by their rampant neighbours' misdeeds.

March upon Armascum and Clypem from north to southwest, though the fields and cities should, if possible, go undamaged, any signs of military resistance or subversion are to be met with decisive action and subsequent enslavement by the Imperial Legions and all of the cities'  ruling members are to captured and  seized up in their respective cities for mass executions. Let Armascum and Clypem serve to show that the Empire, though not without mercy, will not tolerate this kind of attitude.

You, and your generals, attempt to lead a band of three legions across through fields and and roads.
[2-1] All goes well until you decide to take a shortcut through an agricultural village with the I Hadria Legion. [5] Though you trample the crops, no doubt angering the peasantry, you do no real harm to the land.
[3] The Optimate Marcus Julius, and his skirmishers of the II Fulminaria Legion fair far better. Though they too likely are not seen in the best light by the peasantry, they at least manage not to destroy anything.
[4+1] Far and away the most skilled logistician, Derahoc Astralia is able to easily maneuver his third legion through the fields with little to no trouble.

It isn't long before your group arrives at the next nearest city: Clypem. [2] And despite their brazen actions earlier this season, it would appear that the joint forces of Clypem and Armascum have holed up within like the cowards they truly are.

<thatkid> Do you set in for a siege or go straight for an attack?
<Azthor> How large do their forces seem to be?

[5+1] According to the scouting efforts of one Derahoc Astralia's troops, their forces are significantly dwarfed by your own. All told, they are lucky if they can even reach half your might.
<Azthor> Storm the fort.

Spoiler: Hadrian Forces (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Whitepeak Forces (click to show/hide)

Round 1
(83 vs 33) With little heed for tactics, the combined legions of the Hadrian Empire charge upon the defending troops of Clypem, storming it in great force. Within moments, the walls are breached and the first wave of defenders have fallen to the sword.
Hadrian Health: 70
Whitepeak Health: 23

(26 vs 22) However, once on the Whitepeak's home turf, the tide begins to shift- Using their knowledge of the city's lay-out, the Whitepeak defenders dig in, making a valiant last stand in the marketplace and caravan roads despite the vast numerical disadvantage.
Hadrian Health: 67
Whitepeak Health: 20

(38 vs 10) After several minutes of fierce and bloody fighting, the Hadrian hordes drive through the inner gates. Within moments, the Clypem marketplace has burst into flame...though by who's hand is uncertain. Panicking, their numbers dwindling, the Whitepeak Defenders begin to make a hasty retreat, deeper into the city.
Hadrian Health: 67
Whitepeak Health: 17

(22 vs 38) Just as the Hadrian's believe the battle to have been won, thoughts of looting and celebration on their minds, an older gentleman, his brilliantly-hued cape bearing the colors of Itanos, Armascum, and the Whitepeaks alliance all at once, rallies the defenders for one final attempt to drive them back.
Hadrian Health: 64
Whitepeak Health: 14

(108 vs 17) Luckily, the discipline of the Hadrian troops, combined with the tactical and logistical skills of their commanders, allow them to quickly turn this foolhardy assault to their advantage. In little time at all, the Whitepeak soldiers have either been slain, or surrounded and forced into surrender. Their commander, a man near the age of the Emperor, collapses from his horse following a powerful blow [2 vs 1 vs 1] dealt by an errant member of I Hadria, who died not long after.
The fires continue to rage.
Hadrian Health: 64
Whitepeak Health: 0 (!!!CRIT!!!)

The Whitepeak Defenders have been defeated and the survivors captured, alongside their commander, who is gravely wounded. Clypem has begun to burn.

The Emperor approaches the defeated leader, motioning for him to receive immediate treatment.

"This last stand was a proud fool's pledge, did you not recognize the reason for which your brother cities laid their arms down even when you saw it for yourself? Five thousand mediocrely equipped men, no matter how valiant, could not stand against against fifteen thousand of Hadria's best. The fires will be put out, the trampled fields regrown and the wounded tended to, but you and those foolish enough to heed your call will now atone for your failures. All men still fit for duty in your army will now serve the Empire where they could not as soldiers, as slaves, and you, their leader, will now serve our army as a staff commander, never to rule again, or die where you stand, by my sword; let it not be said that I am without mercy. What will it be?"

Spoiler: Note (click to show/hide)

The Whitepeak Confederation has succumbed, glory to the Empire!

Oh my, seems I've acquired a few admirers. Surely a few drinks will set this little trifle straight...

Calmy walk to the nearest inn and seat myself down. Buy three drinks. If the men follow, bade them sit.

Titus looked out onto the now-burning cityscape from one of the gatetowers, the banner he placed upon it, the first one over the fortifications of Clypem. The fact the assaulting force had taken no casualties whatsoever to take the walls in the first place was indicative of Hadrian military superiority.

Of course, now was the time to collect a nice bonus in the form of loot. While the emperor may've said it was forbidden, he could not punish a man who had already been done so for the same crime...

Encourage a bit of looting in the first legion, telling them if they have any of them are reported, they send the perpetrator to me, where they'll be given a rather minor punishment (or none at all).

Flavius, while happy for the victory, had no time for celebrating. The fires were still raging and he needed his men to be occupied. While certainly disciplined and loyal, bored men with blood still boiling from the fight tend to do... unwise actions.

He disposed his cassis and tied it on his helmet and started to shout commands to his legion.

Put out the darn fire. No looting. Try to free stuck civilians. For the emperor, for the senate.

Fae idly traced the curve of the south coast, a frown tugging at his lips as he looked the map over, and compared it to his hasty notes, taken at the bar. He applied what his brother had taught him on another, blank scroll.

Fae cross-references the positions of the two cities compared to probable cities on the maps.

The man pushed himself up from his seat, stifling a yawn and checking the time, before turning and heading home for a fresh change of more…fancy clothes, than the leather tunic and breeches he was wearing, instead pulling on his senatorial toga and replacing his tunic with one of grey-ish leather, etched with golden thread around the collar.

Fae heads to the main plaza, simply looking around.

"Reestablish Order" by arresting "Rebels,Rioters and Looters". Then silently let them vanish into teh Slave Markets of Hadria. If more than half of the troops start looting, join in happily

Crassius drafts a letter to all senators and faction leaders. With growth of th empire, it was impotant to secure the voice of the senate, and through it, of the people. Emperor was a great man, but he was still just a man. It was important to make sure that the procedures were carried through correctly.

Send out letter to all Hadrian Senators, in order ot gather support for my motion ahead of next meeting (letter is adressed to all PC senators and their factions).

Derahoc cursed the misfortune that caused a fire to break out. The Empire had to be seen getting into action.

"Get me a bucket line! Lets douse these flames before they spread!"

Legio III assists in putting out the fire. After, normal police work, no man of the 3rd Legion is to be caught looting, pillaging or harming the new people of the Empire

Back in armor, the Speculatores returned quickly to her commander with good news.

"Ave Praetorio Aleron! I've found evidence as to the leader of this riot, though perhaps as a collateral effect. Senator Hetairos, in his words and speech of freedom and its relation with the Emperor spurned on these...people. The man I interrogated knew only the general gist of the moment, and not the full context. I believe it was not intentional of the Senator, but that is what I've gleaned." Kora said.

"You know, that's the good news along with the Emperor's victory over the Whitepeakers. There is no bad news, I'm afraid."

The Praefectus rose an eyebrow at the news. He had certainly heard about something similar, but now that...
"Thanks for the information, Kora...I think we will need to move on to the last region the man was seen at and gather more information to be delivered directly to the Emperor. Let us keep following the track."

Durant sighed deeply. He had his suspicions about what could have been happening. Was it truly unintentional or had the Senator been purposefully provoking unrest as a political maneuver to undermine the Emperor?

Investigate the last city Hetairos has been to and analyze his impact upon the population. Talk to the people and ask what happened, how they are feeling and what has the Senator taught or told them (Charisma+1).

The Isolationists had been totally uncorruptible. The good ol' days had been long gone indeed, back in the days, a lavish banquet was bound to win at least a few Senators to your cause!

And as if this wasn't enough, a young hothead among the Optimates had been busy making a fool of himself and had even caused some rioting with his ridiculous speeches. He had of course been chastised and was now firmly back into the flock, but the Emperor's security forces were bound to make inquiries that would tarnish the Optimates' image. He had to do some damage control.

Send a letter to the Praefectus, requesting a meeting to discuss the Hetairos case.

The Fall of Whitepeak

[Chaos: 2-1] The storming of the city was not kind to its inhabitants. As the Hadrians were taking the walls, multiple fires were sparked throughout Clypem. Immediately, the legions all started entering the city, either to loot or to put the fires out, [Orders: 3-2 for Azthor, 5-2 for Dragor, 5-1 for Terenos, 6-2 for Ghaz], and they all received orders from their commanding officers, save for Legio I, which the Emperor did not manage to contact.

[Legio I: 3 vs 1+1][Legio II: 4+1 vs 4][Legio III: 4+1 vs 1] All troops within the city chose, nonetheless, to prevent looting as much as possible and to put out the fire. In an impressive example of discipline, thousands of soldiers abandoned the possibility of looting to save the city from the roaring flames...
[Fire: 1+1, 1+1]... To not avail. After hours upon hours, the legions were forced to abandon. Clypem's urban arrangement, with mostly wooden houses organized tightly together in narrow streets, both impaired the soldiers and helped the fire. Clypem is destroyed by the fires, its population either dead or scattered. Since the legions did not loot, no money was made off of it.

[Loot: 2,3,3,1-1] Eight ducats in total were taken from the treasuries of the various cities. Clypem's treasure chamber was found completely burned down, and no loot was taken from it.

[Slaves: 3 units] What remains of the surrendered regiments are taken as slaves or disbanded, since not enough remain to make a Skirmisher region.

Fae cross-references the positions of the two cities compared to probable cities on the maps.
[3] You put down accurately the elven one, located just south of the deserts, but you fail to place the other one. Perhaps the original explorations were not particularly thorough...

Aid the Prefect in his investigation via searching for any supplier of weaponry or mercenary group connected.

[/] You do not find any mercenaries or weapon suppliers who could have been related to this. It seems that the senator was decidedly not trying to cause a riot on purpose.

[5+1] You learn everything you think you could have gleaned. It seems Hetairos simply wanted to gather popular support for his bill, but his speech did not cause much impact on the population of this city. The people are mostly neutral about it all, and a good lot have already forgotten it.
