Leave Itanos & Secamis as they are, though a governor will be appointed, they were wise to promptly join the Empire and, as such, it'd be barbarism for anything but the strictly necessary to be forced upon them, their reaction was one to be encouraged; Itanos & Secamis are made into an Imperial Province, but its ruling class and infrastructure are otherwise left intact and the Emperor promises future investments through which to repair the damage caused by their rampant neighbours' misdeeds.

March upon Armascum and Clypem from north to southwest, though the fields and cities should, if possible, go undamaged, any signs of military resistance or subversion are to be met with decisive action and subsequent enslavement by the Imperial Legions and all of the cities'  ruling members are to captured and  seized up in their respective cities for mass executions. Let Armascum and Clypem serve to show that the Empire, though not without mercy, will not tolerate this kind of attitude.

Travel to nearest city (with bodyguards), attempt to generate crowd. Purpose of speech: To get people to support my bill and sway them to my ideology of more popular power and power for the Senate.

Durant smiled at the man who was offering him both the antidotes and someone he could talk to and finally obtain some poison. Even if he hadn't been terribly lucky and the antidotes happened to be very pricy, it was still worth the effort and the time he spent searching for them. The poison would be obtained...In due time.

For now, the antidotes and the contact with the man would be enough.
"Of course. I would be pleased to be introduced to your cousin."

~~O~~

The Praefectus motions the soldier by his side closer, asking for him to call Kora as he examines the damages caused by the troublemakers who had recently vandalized the city. The riots were not excessively damaging nor too dangerous to the citizens, but they could be the symptoms of something worse brewing within the society.

Action had to be taken, and the Guard would have to act quickly to supress any rabblerousers attempting to cause disorder and destruction. "Tell Kora to help me investigate into these affairs. We need the criminals involved in this arrested, interrogated or at least brought to justice before it becomes worse. I will start now myself."

He moves towards the nearest citizen and pats his shoulder, presenting a smile as the man focus his attention on his face and the Guard's armor. "Excuse me, but would you happen to know where the criminals have escaped to? We are on their track, but your help would be throughly appreciated so that we may prevent them from causing further damage and hindering the lives of the citizens."

Buy the antidotes for 1d. Accept the offer to being introduced to the man's cousin.

Question people (especially the ones whose goods and property were damaged and are more vocal) about what happened and who is responsible for the riots - who were the agents of chaos and what made them act as they did. Be civil, making use of the charisma bonus.

"Hey steve." You speak into the air.
>Yes?
"Could you guys also make a hamburger out of this arm when they cut it off? I wanted to eat it just for the sake of tasting it."
>That is horrible and disgusting. It will no doubt set you apart and create fear in your team mates. So of course.

"Riots." Kora muttered to herself as she received word from the Prefect. Worries caused by petty men, surely made to incite an inner conflict under the Emperor, or the Senate's nose.

It was disgusting.

She bade the guard with the message to the Prefect that infiltration was the route she was planning to take, as it seemed the rioteers were unorganized and mostly rowdy in their movements. After doing so, she returned to her personal quarters.

"He's going for the questioning," she mused out loud, changing into plain clothes while concealing a dagger, "and I'll uphold my position in my own way."

Speculatores...I sometimes wonder why exactly we are called such.

Act like a confused peasant and then question one of the 'free' criminals, inquiring heavily on the cause of all this and if possible, the organizer. If done correctly, "Release" one of the men to possibly, return with him to those who staged the rioting.

Kaeso thought for a long time - it lasted less than a minute, but it felt like a day and a half - before answering this time. He frowned as he spoke.

"I come from a large family, Fae. The Peregrinus dynasty has members in the Mountains, and the deserts, and the plains of men. Members of my family have traded with men and elves, lizardmen and orcs, and even trolls for the far north. However, we never went east. Of course, we traded and exchanged with the men of the eastern plains, but we never explored the south or the north of that great continent that lies east of us. The Dwarves used to go in those places, ages past; yet now we go no more, and it is good that way.

I heard many tales from these places. Sailors speak of giant, intelligent insects that have mastered an art of war different than ours, and of silent forests that eat men alive and never leave even the merest of bones behind. They do not speak of ports and trading routes; they speak of death, and fear. There is nothing to trade for in the east, and I will not finance any exploration going that way."

"That's quite a shame, Kaeso, for me at least, but, no offense of course, we’ll just have to find a few others willing to support our venture. Thank you for spending your time considering it, at the least.” Fae’s tone was quite relaxed and smooth, even as his fingers tapped on the table for a few seconds, before lapsing into a thoughtful silence that lasted only for a few seconds. "My elder brother once took me on a trip to the east. We frequented a few ports and each was booming, foreign, but not deadly, if not for the few pirates who preyed on those waters. However, before me and my brother set home, there was a few less pirates.”

"Regardless; thoughts on that rabble-rousing populare who‘s causing a stir? It seems like he‘s giving the more Liberal members of Senate a bad name…”

"I am willing to be part and sponsor any venture.  I have already aquired good contacts here in Hadria. They are waiting for goods as we speak."

Crassius smiled.
"Provided i can speak ot one of the legates about slaves, we are close to staarting a big enterprise with quite the contacts and quite the size, with us 3 at the centre of it all. A senator-trader Triumvirate!"

"Well, Fae, I cannot say I would be willing to support exploration up front. However, if the two of you can manage to organize a successful expedition and convince me there's money to be made in the outer shores, then I will gladly provide you with financial support.

As for the rabble-rouser... I do not know. He caused more trouble than his motion is worth, and I would not like to be affiliated with him - especially with the most recent rumors about him that have just gone out. Perhaps something should be done about that."

That last remark had a darker tone, and while Kaeso's expression remained polite, his implications were quite clear.

"Too bad dueling is such a nasty, venomous act, not to mention being something that barbarians do...and the emperor is too far to reach with letter and on the war path." Fae remarked, slowly pouring himself another glass of honeyed wine, having drained his last some time ago.

Lucullus stepped out of the Senate wholly satisfied. His faction had a Legate and would soon have a governorship. With a governor came the power to lavish gifts on important people, which would in turn bring him more power... A few things had to be done at the moment though.

First of all he needed to give a feast for the Isolationists. They were his traditional allies, but would resent the war. But with enough wine and praise, he would sooth their hearts, and who know, he might even induce some to jump side and join the Optimates.

Give one of the feast I am known for, with expensive food and lots of wine. Invite the more patricians of the isolationists and explain to them the benefits to be had from trading and developing the new provinces, and the way not a single Hadrian life was lost for that profit. Try to get some of them to join the Optimates.

The three were gestured into the house by a servant. Food was served and ate, wine poured and drunk…And then the two senators were sent out the door along with a servant to escort them home, if they so wished.

Head out the next morning to the dives and inns, dressed as a high commoner and with a sword strapped to his belt. Listen to rumors about varoius things, across the seas and at home.

Travel to nearest city (with bodyguards), attempt to generate crowd. Purpose of speech: To get people to support my bill and sway them to my ideology of more popular power and power for the Senate.

[4] [3] You manage to gather a small crowd, from the city's plebs and even containing a few merchants and businessmen who look half decent. Over all, it seems the men and women of this city have not heard of you before, for good or evil. [4+1] Overall, they are fairly enthusiastic about supporting your bill to get more senatorial meetings, but [2+1] they are left doubting of the wisdom of giving more power to the senate. The emperor's rule is efficient, and it turned the city state of Hadria into a powerful nation over the years; these people do not want much change regarding that.

[3] The apothecary gives you the location of his Cousin, but when you arrive at the place - a filthy bar smelling of sulphur - you find it abandoned. Why the man fled, you do not know, but perhaps he simply saw you coming from afar and recognized you as a servant of the emperor... Or perhaps his "cousin" lied or had outdated information.

[1+1] Nobody seems to know who started the riots or why. Everyone generally agrees that it started in the forum, but they do not know what event started the anger of the crowds.

Act like a confused peasant and then question one of the 'free' criminals, inquiring heavily on the cause of all this and if possible, the organizer. If done correctly, "Release" one of the men to possibly, return with him to those who staged the rioting.

[5] The man you choose nearly immediately starts blabbering on about how the senator Hetairos sparked it all, speaking of freedom of the people and overthrowing the emperor and... Strange things. After a little while, you realize that the man is a little nuts on the side and he does not know what half the words the senator used meant. When you free him, he just goes to the nearest bar instead of trying to find anybody who could have started the riot. Only one thing is clear: Hetairos's speech started it all, although it was not intentional.

Give one of the feast I am known for, with expensive food and lots of wine. Invite the more patricians of the isolationists and explain to them the benefits to be had from trading and developing the new provinces, and the way not a single Hadrian life was lost for that profit. Try to get some of them to join the Optimates.

[/] You do not manage to convince anybody. [Sorry, I haven't yet thought about how senatorial politics will work in these regards, but I don't want it to be based on simple d6 actions. If I change my mind, I'll roll this later.]

Head out the next morning to the dives and inns, dressed as a high commoner and with a sword strapped to his belt. Listen to rumors about varoius things, across the seas and at home.

  • A senator has been rousing the rabble and causing riots in Hadria recently... He goes by the name of Hetairos...
  • A port held by desert elves has declared it was open to more trade recently; it offers spices to those willing to buy...
  • A particularly annoying band of trolls have been raiding cities in the delta since they found a quinquireme in an abandoned cove. Some say they have an hiding place somewhere along the northern river...
  • A sailor says that there is a city in the south east willing to trade goods in great numbers. Although its inhabitants are very strange, a lot of money could be made there, as it sells silk...

Fae pushed himself up from the table with a small smile. He sat a few gold pieces down on the table where he was sitting and thanked the Dwarf he was sitting with.

Then he turned, and headed to a library(?), to look up Trolls, Desert elves and any information on the eastern lands.

Then he turned, and headed to a library(?), to look up Trolls, Desert elves and any information on the eastern lands.

The Northern Trolls are an ancient and particularly vicious race peopling the northern continent. Although little is known of their actual culture, most scholars agree on the fact that they work in clans similar to that of orcs, and that most of their economy (if the system of exchanges of these barbarians can qualify as an economy) is based on stealing from superior peoples. Although they do not present that much of a danger at sea (they lack the skill or the infrastructure to make any ship bigger than a trireme), they are extremely dangerous in a fight.

Physically, they look like big, hairy, mean apes; most of them are satisfied with wearing loincloths, and they only dress and arm themselves when they go to war or when they are raiding. Generally standing at nine to ten feet tall, they tower over any other known race, and they make even the orcs look like weakling when it comes to sheer muscles. However, most scholars agree that they are particularly dumb; the smartest troll known to civilization could not count beyond fifty. It is generally agreed that trolls are best avoided, unless one has an army behind himself.

The Desert Elves, or the Kevaki as they call themselves, are particularly peculiar species. Being the only known race that is united under the banner of one nation, they are widely respected in the south, and they only fear the Lizardmen who hold the western jungles together. They are well known sailors and merchants, and are much more civilized than their cousins of the north (although that is a small feat). They are well known for their vast territories that grew vastly beyond their homelands of the desert, although the outer rims are little more than colonies.

The Kevaki have... Little love for Hadria, as barbarians tend to have. This goes back to the early days of the empire, before the fall of the eastern alliance, when the humans of the plains rallied under the banner of a southern warlord to push the Elves out of human lands and back into the desert. Although our nation, which was small at the time, did not play a big role in the war, it is the only one still standing mighty all these years later, and they still view us with distrust.

[4] The Eastern continent is... Not well known. However, there is some very precious information on the civilization that is looking for trade in the south; a map showing probable locations of some cities, and a short document presenting the bases of their language. With some studying, you could talk with them!
