I'm interested, but as I've never done Hermit before, so I have some questions :

As you start with 7 dwarves, you have to kill the 6 others, right ? There's no way to start with only 1 dwarf ? (And what's the easiest way to deal with them, without the last one getting mad ?)

I am certain that there is a DF hack script under Dfusion that allows you to modify the amount you choose to embark with.

Quote
1) The hermits can pick up to [100 points - price of copper pick] worth of items, along with [what they need to create a pick, or a pick].
Ergo, you can take an anvil, 1 copper ore, and 66 points of items (100-44)

That would work.

I changed my human to a gobbo after reading the second post.

Made a change to the first post.  Instead of:

Quote
[100 points-price of copper pick] worth of items plus [pickaxe or materials to create a pickaxe]

it now reads:
Quote
200 points worth of items.

1. As a dwarf, can I build the workshops needed to build the pick outside? Because if not I'm screwed.
2. Can we bring animals?
3. Can whoever's making the world please remember to set visible caves on. We need caves for hermits.

Plots are an aboveground 'construction' so a dwarf cannot farm above ground.  Nor can an elf farm below ground.

You do have 200 embark points to spend now, but I may allow a temporary workshop to be set-up.

I think I'll build a small hut, and then make a giant basement.  I've always liked the idea of a bunch of little houses connected by many secret tunnels.  Goblins seem like a race that would do that.  Maybe I'll even fill the houses with traps, to bait anyone who tries to get in my personal space.
Also, can we bring/catch pets?

I am severely tempted to do that in the caverns.

I don't know if I'll even try to go to the caverns, I'm probably going to spend all ten years on my shacks and tunnels.

Also, as some advice:
Though I'm sure most of you know this, you can use training axes to cut trees.  So you don't even need to embark with one, just dismantle your wagon and mine rock to get the carpenter's shop.
