Dawn of Time : The Beginning (still alive)
« on: September 14, 2012, 01:51:12 pm »

THE TRIBE

Three majestic hills are before, while you are wandering to the large, slow stream, glittering in the basking sunlight of the noon sun. You are followed by your tribe, a serpentine of young men, gaffers, women and kids.
As you see it, you know... This will be your home of your tribe into all eternity. You are numerous, you are strong, and you are crafty.
Your tribe will be a mark into unknown times, which lies before you.

Your men and women gathers around you, looking at you with their curious eyes. "Why should we settle here? We wander and are fine with it. The food will dry out and then we starve and die!"

As the leader of this tribe, you are the one who decided to settle in these lands, and so far, your reasoning has been yours alone to know, but what will you tell your people, now that they crave an answer? Be careful, every decision you make will have great consequences upon this land.

Announce to the people that you shall settle here and build a great city out of the ground. Take charge of the rabble by checking stocks and finding out what skills and tools the people have.

This. Also set some to work straight away gathering wood, and stones from nearby.

Designate some farmland, and assign men/animals to work it.

Try to figure out agriculture. The young, foolish, and ADHD should build three great houses on the three hills. Eventually, they will be a communal house, a vault, and a palace, to house the tribe's people, wealth, and leaders, but for now we'll just sleep in the three buildings.

Announce to the people that you shall settle here and build a great city out of the ground.

You are struck by an idea, to build a great city unlike any other, a monument dedicated to your people that shall outlast time itself! It sure is a shame that you have absolutely no idea as to what a city is; you've almost certainly seem none of these in your time.

Announce to the people that you shall settle here and build a great city out of the ground. Take charge of the rabble by checking stocks and finding out what skills and tools the people have.

This. Also set some to work straight away gathering wood, and stones from nearby.

Your tribe boasts [3d80/3] 34 fit individuals and, after a quick inspection, you determine that you have enough food stored to last you for [d20] 4 years. The lack of preservation of any kind means 15% of the tribe's food reserves will rot every day. Your nomadic lifestyle  thus far left little room for the development of complex tools, though you've long since mastered Toolmaking I, leaving you with [3d10/3] 4 crude stone axes, 5 crude wooden clubs, 7 crude wooden spears and 7 crude stone knives.

Four of your people set out to gather wood. They come back with [4d100 x 0,05] 6 unworked logs.

How about we settle here because I punch you in the face, that's why. Now shut up and build some gorram huts!

After briefly berating your people on their perceived ignorance, much to their discontentment, you start daydreaming of some bizarre construct you've branded "gorram huts". Now that you think about it, what is it that you were supposed to be doing in the first place anyway? Ah, yes, now you remember it, back to explaining to the disgruntled crowd in front of you why you've suddenly decided to settle in these lands and abandon your people's ancient nomadic ways.

Designate some farmland, and assign men/animals to work it.

An idea concerning farmlands and working animals springs to mind, but, puzzled, you quickly dismiss the notion.

Try to figure out agriculture. The young, foolish, and ADHD should build three great houses on the three hills. Eventually, they will be a communal house, a vault, and a palace, to house the tribe's people, wealth, and leaders, but for now we'll just sleep in the three buildings.

Not only are you and your people clueless as to the likes of agriculture, their inability to build as much as huts makes the concept of a great house sketchy at best. Your people do know how to build tents though and, in fact, have enough of them to house everyone in Very Poor condition.

Have 3 townies chop down some more trees. Send a group of 4 armed with spears (for throwing) and knives (for butchering) to scout the area for any animals that could be hunted. Have any available townie take the spare axe and chop up the logs while 3 take the remaining spears and watch for any threats.

-Designate hunters (if absent) and work out watch schedule with them.  Some men will always watch the horizon, excepting night when they will keep night watch in pairs.

Send hunters out to ambush and gatherers to gather plants.

-Any existing 'nobles'?
Want nobles to experiment.

The player avatar is, at the present time, the closest thing to a noble. He can die, mind you, it is that kind of game.

Nobility per se is not known. The tribe has no private property.

Suggest we bury the hard parts of fruit in the earth and pile logs and stones in patterns on top of the three hills. We are settling for protection against tribes more violent and less enlightened than us.

Hold fire-keeper contest!  Hold sharp/pretty rock finding contest!  Winners are new nobles!

They keep flame and find 'rare stuff'  They experiment as supplies and imagination allows!

Wait, if I get PA killed, does the game end for me or everyone?

No, we roll a new PA from amongst the population. Expect bad things to happen as new PAs come in though. I will note that the game only ends if either all of your population dies or you are irrevocably assimilated by a foreign culture.

I think we should have some people attempt to get fish using any remaining spears, in order to supplement our food stocks.
