Milk is not pronounced "melk." Pen is not pronounced "pin." Pillow is not pronounced "pellow."

I don't give a damn if it's pop or soda or Coke to you, but I will go to jail one day for slapping somebody who mispronounces any of those words in the way I've listed.
Oh dear.  :-[

My accent is pretty mild, because college and travel will do that to you. BUT...if I'm a-goin' down ta the country to see my kinfolks, it done come out in a BIG way (as in, not just the accent but the dialect as well).

I live in the southern US, and with my friends and family, I'll make fun of them if they say something with a heavy accent. But it's all in good fun and I don't really mean any harm by it... I generally find accents to be interesting to listen to, although I will admit that some grate on me and others are completely unintelligible. Utter mispronunciation is a pet peeve. I'll usually let it slip, though, if it's not a close friend or family.

I used to not have much of an accent myself, but apparently it comes out a bit if I'm talking to anyone else around here as evidenced by a Canadian friend eavesdropping on me over the phone as I talked to a local electrician who was doing work on my house one day. I'm still hearing about that one years later.

My sister pronounced "awry" as "AW-ree" for a long time. It cracked me up. She also once had a chemistry teacher that pronounces "molecules" (normally mall-uh-kyools) as "mall-uh-cleez". Never figured that one out.

As for words that really bother me...I've met people who consistantly pronounce Golem like Gollum from LOTR.

Also, everyone who pronounces Kraken differently than me is wrong.

So I've got a new professor for my dynamics course (which is all about moving things, so kinetics and kinematics). He speaks english great, except that he pronounces both kinetics and kinematics with an 'a' instead of an 'i'. (can-etics and can-i-matics respectively). I think I'm going to go insane by the end of the semester.

I mispronounce(or sometimes use an entirely wrong word) all the time.  I think my brain doesn't do to well with speech, which is kind of weird since I have no problems reading.

I like to pronounce words with clear emphasis, but the Australian accent is naturally lazy so I feel stuck-up if I do it properly. :D

For example, battery is supposed to be 'bat-ter-ree'. In Australian, it's 'bat-tree'. Vehicle is pronounced as 'vee-cal'. We also seem to replace 'er' with 'a', and drop the 'i' sound in most words. International is 'inta-nash-nal'.

Then there's pronunciation of Australia. For us, it's 'uh-stray-ah'. It should be 'oss-stray-lee-ah'. I still find it funny that we can't pronounce the name of our own country.
