I usually don't. Last time someone smaller then me made fun of me I broke their jaw. Then I dislocated one of his friends arms. Then I ran away.

I shouldent get any ideas..... Iv known this kid since I was, like, 7.

Well, thats what DF means to me, the game I would fight for.

Edit;
I just realised how bad my neighborhood is.

Edit 2;

XD. Sorry about that

Edit; So how about we avoid an inevitable derail that will come of this?

To me, Dwarf Fortress is like a game that I think makes me different then most other kids my age, that play FPS games and others. Not only that, but the game is just so so in-depth, im glad to be part of a small group of people who can actuly enjoy it. Now, the game itself, is just so unique. Everytime I play it seems like a new story, like a new adventure that I will never experience again. It made me really feel like I was in a fantasy world, the same way LotR did. I cant seem to explain it with my limited linguistic ability, but I can sure as hell try. It just seemed to put me somewere else and convince me I was there, something that Iv never been able to experience since I was a kid, in my basement on my SNES, and its a thing new games are unable to capture the way old ones did.

Also, playing a game most people cannot akes me feel special :3.

It's the best example of a lofty goal that doesn't fall short in execution. It's what the Battlecruiser 3000AD franchise could have been. Some people argue that complexity =/= good game, and they are right. But when complexity is done right, you have something truly compelling.

I had no idea what I said would garner such response. I guess all I can say is thank you.
And WaffleEggnog, too bad about your friend being an asshole. Good that he apologized.

To be honest, I don't really know what DF means to me. It certainly has played a large role in my life since I discovered it around the start of this year. Dwarf Fortress has offered hours of adventure and dozens of facepalms (and the occasional facedesk), both from the stupidity of my dwarves and my own stupidity. And after all that, I have not begun sciencing with minecarts, or even constructed a full scale mega project/magma fuck the world device (!) yet. There are many more hours of fun to be had!

As well as DF, the Bay12 Forums also mean a lot to me. These forums are pretty much the only place I feel I belong to and am comfortable in, both on the internet and real life. Which I guess is kind of sad maybe, I don't know. But anyway, thanks guys!

Also, I get the same stuff, WaffleEggnog. My friends all think I'm extremely weird for playing games full stop. Not to mention playing Dwarf Fortress, which they pretty much laugh at me for. But then again, I'd say Dwarf Fortress is slightly above most people my age :D

You should give yourself more credit. You are, after all, managing a hole filled with lunatics on a daily basis.

The only game where sucess depends on how big your memory and conceptual faculty is.

Finally, a game for those with brains. Also the only game where 'golden goblin ejectulator' makes sense.

1, Gameplay over fluff. One of the few developers that understands how games used to be made, and makes them well.

2, What dedication can achieve both from the developer, and indeed a reward to the player playing in the same way :). Just like old school games used to be, you had to learn them, and they challenged you.

3, Immersion - I get a lot of immersion getting to know my dwarves. Sure some things could be improved and things are always added, but few games have ever put me in roleplaying mode so well, with no effort on my part its just a natural effect of the detail here, and the managing of the needs of the fort/dwarves.

4, About the only game I can name at the moment which would probably increase someones intelligence while playing, rather than turn them into a drooling angry mess, slobbering for the next fix. :) Okay that's harsh, and not entirely fair but true of more and more games, is that they just treat you like a mouse in a linear maze, giving you shock therapy for going another route. Whereas with DF its more of a - you have to design the maze, make sure its working well, adapt, keep 200 mice happy while making sure the neighborhood cats don't get in, and that's just the basics.

I agree.  I tried that Nudist Hobbit Grappling Federation game, but it was way more buggy and the hairy feet also put me off...

A game that has a lot of complexity and background. Also, it has dwarves.
