I think this discussion back and forth does highlight something. We dont know a lot about what the game actually is.

One of my issues with the game, was that there wasn't anything substantive about the game posted. The screen shots look well polished, but the Dev is primarily an artist. So just because they looked good, doesnt mean they have optimal UI or the capability to give you digestible meaningful information.

The trailer, I think is the most damning. It shows off the Dev 3d animation skill, and for being a short animated thing, its pretty good. But the game play it then shows, is for the missions, which dont seem to make up the meat of the game, and more important that particular mission of boarding a ship is not the meat of the game.

So, really, we dont know a lot about it.

The IndieGoGo pitch video shows quite a lot of gameplay from most of the modes.

I think it would be best if was sort of a "business sim" think, with the main two portions of the game being designing ships and then manufacturing/selling them, with the missions on some lesser order of relevance.

Knock-out by valid, well-thought-out-argument. ;)

I'd only be interested in this if I could ignore the gameplay and use it as starship design software.

If I (and apparently all of us) understand it right, that's all the game actually is until it hits like $26,000 funding.  You design a ship, and then test it, and then you have a tested ship.  So you'd need to utilize the "gameplay" bit of leading your team around the ship, but that seems very low on the scale of things that count as gameplay.

Okay, well here's hoping he doesn't reach his goal and we get a cool toy instead of another browser-based space empire game.

somehow i have the image atm of designing a spaceship like in this project and then fly it around "rougelikey" like in that other spaceship crew control indy game that somewhere had a topic somewhere here.

and this reminds me a bit of how you create ships in space empires 5 too... it had 3 daecks and you could place modules and weapons where you wanted, but didnt had much gameplay effects, exept outer get damaged first or so...

or imagine this ship designing in aurora, with crew effiency and damage in areas/decks...

so somehow i would want this ship designing with crew etc in soooo many other space games XD.
and yeah it maybe gets "boreing pretty quick" if its "just score attack missions"... i.e. in starfarer i didnt like the "missions" that much, but i love the free space campain they added to it.
or with gratious space battles... love the designing and fights, but dont realy like the "repetive missions".

but i guess thats just what i like, there are tons of people who love scoreattack games or time attack games.
but well lets see how this project grows over time... who knows what else they add to it.
