The 365 days a DF player dreads.
« on: July 17, 2012, 06:50:37 pm »

In this topic we are going to discuss the days we fear the most that may or may not happen to the future Dwarf Fortress. I will start us off.

1. The day when Toady decides that Carnivores need to be fed in order to survive.

Animals used to need food, including carnivores. But it couldnt function in Fort Mode. It might make a return.

3. The day the HFS gets ahold of a copper pick.
4. The day volcanoes get the ability to erupt.
5. The day magma has its flow rate recalculated and it doesn't make it to the changelog in time to save a thousand inundated forts.

That day will probably also include some optimizations that mean we will have even less time to react because the temperature calculations take less time than before.

6.  The day being awesome is compromised for being acceptable, and you can no longer pull demented yet practical stunts because it would offend hand-wringing moronmoral guardian types.

3. The day the HFS gets ahold of a copper pick.

7. Or the day goblin invaders learn how to dig. Imagine how the map would look after 20 years of sieges...

I'm actually looking forward to that one.  I like goblins anyway, and invaders coming at me through the walls sounds as entertaining as it is horrifying.

2. the day dwarfs melt in the rain.... again.

The underlying material problems are still there, so don't worry, all it would take is a dwarf to spike an exceptionally high fever for that to return.

7. Sequal to the 6, when Goblins get the ability o learn :0. If you have too much spare time and read the every single planned feature, then you would see that there was a part about "goblins learning", example, if you have a hallway full of traps were everyone dies or gets captured, the goblins in the next siege would dig/climb to avoid that one corridor full of traps.

I know, it sounds interesting, but I think after many years of sieges there would be no surface left and the fort would look like a swiss cheese.
