Right, so someone reported the argument and Toady cleaned out a bunch of stuff I guess and just unlocked the thread again.

Lets try and keep it civil from now on. If you're unhappy with something just PM me and I'll take care of it privately.

That said, I am not changing the thread title because I DO still intend to run other servers. How soon I can do that, I can't say but I am going to be looking at corneroids again today.

Meh, still crashing :(
I updated Java, I checked my install of the mods (even fresh install crashed) and I fiddled with the video settings, but to no avail.
Forsaken, can you delete my char data (Maunoir) again? Thank you. :)

Any ideas as to what is/was causing the nether crashes?
No idea right now, still looking into it. Its not anything IN the nether though, and I am able to go to the nether without any issues. The log Meta gave me showed a java error, not a minecraft crash.

Forsaken, can you delete my char data (Maunoir) again? Thank you. :)

Thaumcraft seem to have updated to 1.4.7, with some new neat features and researchable items!
Maybe it will soon be a good time to update the server as well?

The changelog for the latest Thaumcraft:
And as always I will highlight what I got exited about.

Quote
3.0.2a (current)
- brain in a jar releases more xp per bonk
- frost wand will no longer be able to break the unbreakable... oops
- worldgen blocks are now as solid as they appear to be
- By popular demand elemental tools and weapons have more evocative names
- ignored criticism of certain textures... except amber bricks which did suck a bit

3.0.2
- update to 1.4.7
- Welcome to tier 3!
- possible fix for corrupt nodeid count
- thaumcraft monster worldspawns can now be disabled in the config settings
- some server config settings will now be sent to the client whenever it connects
- fixed crash when displaying aspects of items without actual aspects
- added warded glass
- warded stone, glass and arcane door is now set to be completely unbreakable even for the person that placed them. They can only be picked up by using a casting wand on them.
- added iron and gold keys to grant others access to an arcane door. See your thaumonomicon for details.
- added warded pressure plates (new research)
- arcane levitators are now more responsive and individual levitators in a stack can be powered down to reduce the levitation height. Only levitators above (or below) the one that has been powered down will be counted for lift or fall distance
- aura node rarity is now configurable.
- For texture pack makers: ss_core.png was getting a bit crowded so some stuff has been moved to ss_world.png
- added another source of the aura aspect
- added another source of the Mutatio aspect
- golems no longer flee when damaged. It caused more problems than it prevented
- added amber blocks and bricks. Blocks are crafted with 4 amber and amber bricks with 4 amber blocks. All of these can be converted back into amber.
- rebalanced the casting wands (wand of the apprentice, adept and thaumaturge)
- casting wands now have their own gui elements
- changed the way data is stored for casting wands.
- slowed casting wand recharge rates while in inventory. Wands now recharge at the same rate in both tables and the players inventory. Higher tier wands have higher recharge rates.
- *WARNING*: Due to these changes there is a very small chance that existing casting wands with damage might break. You may also need to remove any wands from crafting tables and hold them in your inventory for a moment before they will start working with the new system.
- in the ongoing battle to prevent data loss, research data is now saved with the players vanilla NBT data. As a happy side-effect this seems to solve the offline/online issue. \o/
- aura data is now saved as part of the normal MC chunk data. As a result any kind of aura operations now only takes place on nodes in loaded chunks. This has already been true for the most part, but previously a small number of operations could still take place even in unloaded chunks.
- *IMPORTANT* I will be removing all legacy saving methods for both research and auras in a FUTURE update. Research data for players that haven't logged in since this update, and aura data for chunks that have not been loaded WILL be lost. Don't worry, I will give ample warning when I do it.
- added several new enchants - check your thaumonomicon for details. They do not require research to unlock.

Now some things were not mentioned above.. But it involves new golems and the Arcane Bore!

Some new blocks tough require either a new world gen or simply exploring some more.
They are kind of important to one of the new features in the Thaumcraft update.

Hm. Well we could do a reset on both servers, as its a new minecraft version as well. I'll think about it.

I had toyed with the idea of doing a community survival island type setup, where the entire world is void but for a small area, and we must build out from there.

Or just setting up spawn on a remote island in the sea.

Nodes and such might not be appearing in a void world.

The problem I see with that is that the island would be pretty quickly stripmined and then anybody who got a late start wouldn't be able to do much at all.

I was killed by a hectate when I had arch-mage (diamond level protection) Armour, minus the helmet

We can have the overworld be the central hub, but have all mining/exploration happen in mystcraft worlds.  Best solution I believe.

Which magic mod? Ars Magica? The better question is what do you know about it. There's a ton, but the only stuff that isn't really on the wiki is the specifics of each spell.
