Server 1 is down for maintenance and updating. Just FYI

The problem I see with that is that the island would be pretty quickly stripmined and then anybody who got a late start wouldn't be able to do much at all.
This isn't really a problem honestly. As pointed out, you have mystcraft worlds available and equivalent exchange can change cobblestone into diamonds eventually. The point would be to give a central location to build n and build from.

I wouldn't mind it. It might be nice to have more of a central community.

The only issue, if you don't want people ranging out on the overworld, is ensuring that the island has reeds and chickens.

It'll basically end up the same though, everyone will just create their own Mystcraft age to build in.

Not if there are some clear rules set to prevent this.
And rules to encourage teamwork.

I've been toying with the idea of removing mystcraft altogether as well, or simply restricting world creation as I did before. I'll make a mining age for example, but building happens in the overworld.

The server is back up now. No changes yet, just backing everything up and working on an update soonish.

Would building something like a rubber plantation in the mining age be fine?
I guess, though I don't see why you couldn't build it in the overworld where everyone else is.

Don't forget, indoor tree farming works too. You could just set it up underground.

And yeah, I like the idea of a centralized location more or less enforced by rules. The main reason I stopped playing was because I really didn't get anything more than I would in solo mode other than lag. People were so spread out that it became more like singleplayer with shared chat.

Which server would get the island? Tech or Magic?

One of the things with this, though, is that some biomes I dislike, and I prefer being somewhat isolated.
Guess you could always build yourself an isolated undersea complex?

What biomes do you like?

Might I suggest you may enjoy playing in Single player then? :P

We definitely need another ocean world. Just because of how awesome that was. And for some reason, an endless surface of water is MUCH more intresting than an endless surface of grass.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.
