Relax, it's an in joke.
Rape is funny. ::)

No, but no subject is so dark and bleak as you can't make a joke about it, not even censorship with the offended feelings of minorities and victims as an excuse.  Which is irrelevant as it's not even a joke about a rape, it's about a (deliberate) narrator goof and the stupid formulaic titles of many otherwise entertaining products.
The entire point of this forum is proof that anything can be made hilarious. I'm just surprised that people are more upset about this then they are about the thread about Brutally torturing training dwarven childen with dogs and magma . BEGONE HEATHEN, SATISFY YOUR SENSE OF MORAL OUTRAGE ELSEWHERE, BUT THIS IS A PLACE SAFE FROM YOUR INFLUENCE.

Training dwarven children is a part of the game, but this is meta; outside of the game.
Raping is no joking matter. Ask any of the grownups in your vicinity.

More importantly, it stopped being funny after the first 1-2 times it was used. But, if you are 13yo and your sense of humour has not yet started refining, I can understand that your creativity is yet to grow and bear fruit.

Furthermore, I'm also willing to guess that you also giggle when someone says "cake".

33.5% don't use a utility?! OMG R U SRS?! :o

Therapist just makes the UI less of an HELL ON EARTH that's all. It's not easy-mode or something. Doing all that stuff yourself takes time. If you said danger rooms are easy-mode way to play the game I would understand but what you are saying is like, "Hey you are going to use a butter knife for that bread and jam? That's easy-mode bro. Drop the knife, man up and apply it by using your hand. Badass. After you are done, we are going to sell your car and I will teach you how run without exhausting yourself so you can just jog to work"

And we are saying that YOU are using a device specifically designed to apply both peanut butter and jelly to both slices of bread at the same time, while we are simply using a butter knife, saying, "No, seriously dude, I don't need that. I can manage it with this."

I use dwarf therapist. Now that I think about it, it does seem somewhat like cheating, as if you were the manager of a huge fort, you realistically wouldn't be able to determine the labors of every single dwarf just by looking at a spread sheet. You would have to ask them, one by one, "what are you assigned to?" Most of the challenge lies in management and in the fact that you only see a portion of your fortress and dwarves at a time, and are blind to the things you don't see or monitor. It's even less realistic too know the emotions of every dwarf, and DT probably makes preventing tantrum spirals much easier. Whereas before, to see the general mood of the fort, you would probably look at a few dwarves and use that as a "survey" - like asking each one, "how are you feeling?" Now, you somehow omnisciently know the general emotions of all the dwarfs in your fort. Thus, DT does take away from the spirit of the game, in my opinion.

Of course, the interface issues are bad (just scrolling and switching between preferences/labors is annoying, and assigning labors is the main thing DT does), and the desire to make the game easier is legitimate also.

I would try out Splintermind if there was a mac version. Is wine and whatever easy to use/not resource intensive?

The thing about calling things cheating is that with a single player game, there's no clear-cut boundary. Does it make the game easier? Sure, but then so do lots of things. By that vein, looking things up on the wiki would also be cheating. (using a tileset wouldn't be cheating, though, cus that makes things harder to understand)

That said, I use something even more cheat-ish than therapist, so I may not be the best judge.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Note how quickly time passes in Fort mode. It is plausible to imagine that the dwarves go around talking to each other a lot. And your abstracted overseer, as well, would have a LOT of time to go around the fort and... you know... oversee stuff. We cannot act in realtime, but only in a very sped up time scale, which one person could not really manage. Our DT is a fair offset to that issue. And yes, I know that we can pause the game anytime, but is it fun to play a realtime game which is stopped 3/4ths of time? I'd say no, Adventure mode is the turn based one.

if you were the manager of a huge fort, you realistically wouldn't be able to determine the labors of every single dwarf just by looking at a spread sheet. You would have to ask them, one by one, "what are you assigned to?"
Then you'd tell them to come back and tell you if their assignments changed, and use the information you gathered off each dwarf to make a spreadsheet for all dwarves.

If I didn't use DT I'd have a Notepad file for each fortress anyway.

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

The irony is, as my fortress grows, I have less and less need to change dwarf labors because for every labor I might need there typically already are a few dwarves that have it turned on. So I only have to set their labors when they arrive, and that's no problem since I need to look at their descriptions anyway.

Therefore I don't have any need for therapist-like utilities. Yes, I could be more flexible and change dwarf labors back and forth on the fly, but things do not work that way IRL, nor do I want them to in DF.

As a bonus, I don't have to wait for therapist updates when new DF comes out.

Also, I learned DF with Therapist, this was from following a few video tutorials on YouTube where DT was being used.  I didn't find where the labor preferences in the game were until I'd been playing for a few weeks.

Insanity. I used the wiki tutorial, and its pretty barebones.
'Here, that's how you dig. This is how you make a farm. Good luck.'
'Eh, what?'
'Oh shit, goblins. Quick, lock the door!'
'How? What? How the fu-'
Your fortress has succumbed to the invasion.
'Excuse me, you bastards, you have some explaining to do.'
'No time, there's a Titan coming!'
'Titan... I'm so fucked.'
Twenty tries later.
'Bwahahahahahahaha, fuck you AND YOUR BOWS! I am the master of traps and magma! I'll show you! I'll show you all! BURN THEM AGAIN, MY MINIONS! BURN THEM AGAIN!'

At that point, I wasn't concerned with how time intensive switching labors on the fly was. I'm too busy melting sieges in glorious magma and figuring out the intricacies of the dreaded Scheduale screen.

I don't use therapist. In fact, I have never used therapist. Managing dwarf settings involves checking and setting migrants as they arrive, and occasionally going through the units screen to check what the dwarves are up to. You can also check the settings on dwarves idling in meeting zones, and set the dwarf titles to give an idea of what they do.

I use therapist. If therapist did not exist I would have abandoned this game as a ridiculous joke within days. To me the analogy should be: DT is just a butter knife. No DT is like making a PB+J with your bare hands.

It's more like 180 slices of bread, and not just peanut butter and jelly, but around 40 different spreads.

1 button click vs spending a half hour spreading goop over those slices. HRM.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.
