I haven't heard anything going on with this yet, so I guess I'll wait and see what happens on the 1st.

I can't help but think that this is all part of a gigantic surge of power madness. Their next step will probably be complete public camera surveillance to prevent prostitution. Hookers will have to wait indoors so the politicians won't be seen pimping in public, and these get a bonus big brother system to get some more incriminating evidence against everyone they don't like. Extra bonus: The FBI gets a billion new reality show TV channels, so they'll be distracted when the MPAA sues the White House for displaying the national flag in public. Then the MPAA will take control over America and will promptly sentence every single American to death for humming a single note of the Batman theme, with a promise of amnesty only if they sign a piece of paper stating that they agree to participate as background actors in mass live reenactments of shitty music videos forever while the heads of MPAA smugly watch from the tip of their evil skyscraper fortress built entirely from the toe bones of starved performers.

Anti-Piracy measures are going to happen... there's simply too much money (thus power) pooled in the hands of entertainment corporations for them to not throw their weight around. I can only hope that they get so many false positives and affect enough people, that the country realizes the negative impact limiting the communication rights of citizens has on our economy and quality of life. Maybe then they will finally back off on this brand of bullshit legislation, and give a good hard think to revising their business models to mesh with new technology, rather than fighting it.

... and if not, then welcome to the birth of the Corporate States of America, I guess?

It's a coin toss how the world may end by the end of this year.

If liberty wins, it'll be peaceful, and common sense returns. If Corporations win, we better read up some prophets and Revelations and try to map out the next few years, depending on how out of hand they might get.

In the meantime, I'm further motivated to get my Apocalypse Party plans underway before death squads would be sent in to seize my party and property because it had good music, movies, and proper licenses to throw said party (aiming for a block party). I think I ought to have a response clip of Lloyd's most annoying sound in the world in an endless loop at the ready if they try to do anything funny. At least if I'm going down, I'll annoy the hell outta them in the process.

Alternatively, I can maybe also load up a ton of Seltzer & Friedberg (____ Movie series) clips to serve as a reminder of who they're supporting, and the content that'll come out no matter what if they continue their support.

EDIT:
Those clips are going to be a cancer on my hard drives.

But if the USA controls the internet, there is no escape. It's not something that can be solved by moving away. We'd have to abandon the internet for something else... carrier pigeons, perhaps.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

We'd have to abandon Hollywood for the Internet.

We'll take the internet with us. After all, the States obviously don't want it here, so let's take it off their hands!

You found an autonomous ISP, clear of any government's influence, I'll sign up for it.

I see no reason why Anti-Piracy measures that have done nothing to stop piracy will do anything better. Someone being paid to add obfuscation or similar, and someone who breaks the previous person's hard work for fun or for challenge are two entierly different kinds of people. Weakening encryption standards is too risky (banks, credit card companies, websites that have important stuff) would smash any attempts at making that so, since that semi-directly affects their business, and VPNs have multiple legal uses that would also cause complaints to get hurled in their general direction.
