Yeah, protip: Do not ever sign a confession of anything, for any reason, ever.

Yeah, I've decided to focus my remaining hope into "Google buys the RIAA"

Because that would be awesome.

One of these days, Google is going to buy a moon laser and their true, dark intentions will finally be known.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

They'll stage an epic laser show and charge everyone for attending. Also, orbital scorch graffiti.

I'm glad that it's highly unlikely that my internet provider will be policing my downloads:

My internet provider is the same state-owned company that provides us power.

That is either nice or potentially terrible.

Hey, it's cheap, (very) high-speed fiber optics without having to deal with a normal company. Plus, the network for it is going to be there anyways, EPB is using it in our smartgrid, AFAIK.

My internet provider is the same state-owned company that provides us power.

I feel like that somehow makes them more susceptible to the RIAA/MPAA's shenanigans.

Also totally approve of google just buying up anyone and anything that opposes them, it seems to be a working tactic these days anyway.

I think that, being a state company, the RIAA/MPAA can't just say, "Hey, here's a couple thousand, now take this suggestion and monitor people."

I think they'd have to go through the state for that to work, and if they're going to do that, it may as well be on the federal level.

Yeah, protip: Do not ever sign a confession of anything, for any reason, ever.

Never say anything, ever, either. You can only incriminate yourself, since the burden of proof is entirely on the prosecutors. You're under no obligation to prove your innocence. Unless, of course, you're on YouTube or the News.

Another interesting bit about upcoming internet news; somewhat unrelated, but it regards internet regulation, and doesn't quite merit its own thread yet.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/47919909/ns/technology_and_science-security/#.T-T0brVSQtQ
A quick summary, from both that link and a previous story on the matter: A number of powerful pro-censorship countries are trying to both get more internationally recognized power to censor the internet and take power away from the US-dominated organizations which currently have most of the authority to do such. The revelations about the US's ongoing cyberwarfare is also being used in part as justification. I haven't read into the details much, but it will certainly be something to watch carefully.

Change the thread title to what I have. It's going to be active by this weekend.

Ready yourselves for the shitstorm of false claims.

At least we know how to prove a theory right! :P The world will end by the end of this year if we get any more powered idiocy in one country.
