, an FPS with the story of the classic 80's slasher films: stereotypical high school teens are hunted down by a crazed killer, and must use their various abilities as a team to outwit the killer, or they get torn to pieces. It's a very long-term project, so I have no idea on the success of the actual game, but it has got me hype enough to think up some mechanics for a Forum Game:
Last Year
Gameplay: A small group of players, probably 4-6, play as the Survivors, represented by high school cliches. An additional player plays the role of Killer. The goal of the Survivors is to fend off the killer while finishing multiple objectives, (getting gas, getting through locked doors, etc.) to ultimately escaped. The Killer's goal is to kill every Survivor. The reason is up to the Killer: maybe they are a demonic force, maybe they are the ghost of a student seeking revenge, maybe they are just extremely psychotic or bored.
The Killer is easily capable of psychically overpowering the Survivors, especially lone Survivors. Additionally, Killer's have the supernatural power to spawn and ambush the Survivors from special spots, just like the jump scares of an 80's slasher flick. When faced with the Killer, it is up to the Survivors to flee, hide, or attempt to fight the Killer off, all depending on the situation.
The Survivors must make vital, risky decisions: Do they split off into small groups or as individuals, which takes less time but leaves them more vulnerable to attacks? Or do they stick as a group, remaining safe but giving the Killer plenty of time to study them and create a perfect ambush?
In addition to items which are required to advance their objectives, the Survivors can also acquire Supplies to assist them, such as Weapons and Medicine.
Survivor Class: Each Survivor has a Class, which provides their team with invaluable skills.
Cheerleader (Scout) - The fastest class. Also has excellent perception, so the Cheerleader is able to identify both the Killer and supplies from a distance before their teammates.
Jock (Soldier) - The strongest class, is the only class that could fight the Killer by themselves, at least for a short time. Also the hardest class for the Killer to take down.
Nerd (Engineer) - The best class to use electronics, the Nerd can hack through electronic locks to open doors, or repair generators to restore light to areas, among other tasks.
Nurse's Aide (Medic) - The best class at using medicine. The Aide can also carry more supplies thanks to their handy Doctor's Bag.
Goofball (Support) - The best class at indirectly fighting the Killer. The Goofball can create traps that hurt, slow, or disorient the Killer. Also, is strong enough to defend self and a teammate against the Killer for a short while, but can't actually go toe-to-toe with the Killer like the Jock can.
Police Officer (Reinforcement) - If the Survivors find a functioning Phone, they can use it to call the police. If they are successful, a waitlisted player will spawn as a Police Officer, alone at one end of the map. The Police Officer is fairly strong, but otherwise has no special abilities. They do have an array of unique items: The Police Uniform is the only armor in the game which offers moderate protection to the torso. The Officer's Pistol does not have enough stopping power to incapacitate a Killer, though it can slow them from a distance to earn valuable time. The Taser is one of the most useful Weapons in the game as it stops Killers dead in their tracks, but it has a limited number of uses and a very short range. The Police Baton would be useful if it was made of metal, but it is plastic and thus fairly useless as a weapon, but it can be improvised as a tool by a clever team. Finally, the Police Officer has a Metal Flashlight which lights up dark areas, and actually works as a weapon. The Police Officer can be a valuable asset to any team, but since they spawn alone, it is up to them to reach the Survivors unless they want to square off against the Killer by themselves.
Killer Classes: Each Class of Killer comes with their own strengths, weaknesses and playstyle.
The Blade (Balanced) - Doesn't excel in any specific area, but isn't weak in any either. Equipped with a Machete which is fairly fast in addition to being quite lethal.
The Rampage (Assault) - Huge, and able to shrug off most damage, the Rampage is able to cut down the Survivors with ease. However, due to their size, the Rampage can be heard a mile away, so they must develop a strategy as they inevitably chase the Survivors down. Equipped with a Chainsaw that rips flesh and bone apart instantly, but is slow to swing and incredibly loud.
The Slasher (Assassin) - The Slasher blends right into the background, the stealthiest of all the Killers. Their victims do not let out a sound as the blade plunges into their neck or spinal column. However, the Slasher is lanky and not very strong, and could possibly be overpowered by an especially skillful Jock. Equipped with the Butcher's Knife, perfect for quick quiet kills but not the deadliest tool in a melee.
The Psycho (Berserker) - The Psycho screams as much as the Survivors for whatever reason the crazed Killer has. The Psycho is very fast, as well as being pretty strong and stealthy when they want to be. While this sounds like the perfect Killer, they are not experts at their job, as they have a harder time keeping track of where distant survivors are compared to other Classes, and they are more prone to getting lost and disoriented just like the Survivors! Equipped with the Spike Club, a deadly tool but unwieldy, especially in the hands of this Class.
The Fisherman (Sniper) - While other Killers get up close and personal, the Fisherman is content with attacking from a distance. Running will be a less appealing option for the Survivors when they are up against a Killer who can pick them off from 100 meters away. Due to his style, the Fisherman is not very tough, fast, or strong, but he has keen eyesight. The Fisherman is equipped with a Harpoon Gun, which goes through a Survivor like a hunk of blubber, and it can be improvised as a close-quarters-combat weapon, just not a very good one.
The Executioner (Heavy) - No cries of agony, no roars of rage. No word or emotion comes from this Killer as they pursue you besides the sound of their footsteps. More like a moving wall than a human, the Executioner doesn't stop just because you smashed his face with a bludgeon or stabbed him right in the gut with a blade. No, he takes pain without blinking and dishes it out at the highest level. They would be an unmatched force, if they could move any faster than a quick walk. The Executioner requires patience and planning for his true menacing deeds to succeed. Equipped with the Sledgehammer, which has a slow swing but few Survivors will live if they are hit.
Locations: Each Round will take place in a location, a normal rather nice place during the day which turns much more mysterious and sinister during the night when the Killer attacks.
Camp Rivercrest - A beautiful Summer Camp, complete with a forest, log cabins, a lake, and campground. During the night, the trees seem to cast an eerie shadow over everything, enshrouding the Campsite in darkness.
Eastern High - A bustling, packed environment in the day becomes a labyrinth of corridors and classrooms during the night.
Oakview Shopping Center - Imagine all the things you could do in a mall with just you and your friends: Skateboard down the ramps, epic-scale Nerfgun battles, busting open the food court! The only thing to ruin it all is the bloodthirsty killer on your tail....
Weapons: One type of Supplies the Survivors can find are Weapons. Having a Weapon does not suddenly give you the ability to face off against the Killer, usually it just gives you a last resort if you are trapped.
Baseball Bat - A classic, one good swing can send a Killer off balance.
Knife - It doesn't level the playing field like you thought it would, but it makes the Killer pause for a few seconds to pull it out of their ribcage.
Axe - Useful for both chopping through doors and Killers. Embedding it in the Killer's shoulder can cause them to lose grip of their own Weapon, while an axe in their knee will slow them down for a bit.
Hammer - You can ruin even the toughest Killer's day with a good couple hammer shots to the face. The downside is that you have to get really close.
Sledgehammer - Now we're talking! One hit and you send the Killer to the floor. If you hit them, miss and you're dead meat.
Shotgun - Holy shit! You might actually be able to scare them away with this thing; no matter how big and bad you are, you aren't going to be killing anyone if you get two point-blank loads of buckshot to the head. Well, you only get two shots, and it's a very close range weapon, you'll have to wait for the Killer to get close. This is also the rarest Weapon on the game, if you manage to find it use it wisely, very wisely...
Just a rough draft, but I think it has the potential to be lots of fun. Thoughts?
